Hair loss
« on: May 05, 2022, 12:04:31 PM »

Hi all, I'm 59 and restarted Hrt Everel patches 3 months ago. My irritable bladder has improved greatly and my aches and pains have reduced  :)
The only downside is that my hair is really thining  :( Does anyone know if taking Testosterone would help this? My G.P has already said that if I wanted Testosterone I would have to go to a Menopause clinic as she doesn't prescribe it.

Although this isn’t HRT related( although. I have been on HRT for 4 years now) it might be worth a shot?
I am 54 and my hair had been thinning for at least 10 years. I tried all supplements and nothing worked. Last year I had bloods done to try and find out why I was so tired all the time. All was fine but my protein markers were low. The gp told me not to worry about that.
Shortly after I started taking a protein drink as I am weight training and wanted to help muscle development. Within a couple of weeks I noticed much less hair fall. Months in and this has continued. I have now also upped my food intake of protein as well.
Women our age need a lot of the stuff.
It might be worth a try?

Protein won’t make you gain weight. Infact upping protein is crucial for women of our years. I have lots of protein at every meal now and it has completely stopped my carb cravings.
I have a collagen drink and protein pancake in the morning and throughout the day I sip a clear whey isolate which tastes like like squash. I am not fond of milky protein drinks: too heavy.

Hi Dada,
I don’t use protein powder but my specialist told me to increase protein at meals and I’ve got really good results from doing so including hair loss stopped and re growth is my normal thickness. It has taken about 4 months.
I totally agree with what Violetbat has written, no weight gain, the opposite, lost weight.

Hi Tora,
Thank you. I will try to up my protein intake with eggs and yogurt and meat.
Places like aldi and tescos do protein Cottage cheese, greek yogurt, tuna etc are all excellent sources of protein. I also have a collagen drink a day. I would avoid the protein bars.

Roughly speaking you should be aiming for 2g of protein for each kg of body weight. We need more as we get older.
