Mirena replacement side effects
« on: July 09, 2022, 09:00:31 AM »

Hi I was looking to hear from anyone with experience of a Mirena replacement causing side effects.
I had one fitted last august which completely transformed me. I have a condition called mast cell activation and the progesterone in the coil dampened the whole thing down. I don’t detox oestrogen well so it builds up in me. I’m not on hrt.

Due to having a bit of a flare of my condition I had another Mirena fitted after only a year to give things a boost.

I had barely any side effects with my last two. Aside from nausea and a bit weary.

I had it fitted last Weds and by Saturday I was jittery, anxious, wakinh with palpitations, teary, very low, nauseous, exhausted. Totally on and off though as Thursday I felt great! Then crashing down yesterday.

I believe there’s a surge in P when it’s inserted. Has anyone had a replacement or insertion and you’ve felt like this and how long did it take to settle? Thankyou! X

Can’t help you I’m afraid, but wanted to post as I know that there are ladies in here who can.

Nas are you about or anyone else?

Hopefully scampidoodle, someone will be along soon. X

Hi scampi,
We talked earlier re: your symptoms. How are you doing today? I do hope you feel better ?

It’s a tricky one, as you could still have that surge of p going through your body. I know that for me, those symptoms primarily point to oestrogen imbalance. However I’m in the trial stages of the mirena and monitoring my feelings daily.

Really hope things settle for you x

Thankyou guys for replying. Another bad day today, v nauseous, jittery and teary. I hope it’ll balance at some point as it’s intolerable.

Does anyone know how long the higher  initial surge in P lasts for? X

Sorry to hear that scampi 😟
Joziel, I think you mentioned to me about the progesterone surge at the beginning of Mirena insertion? Is it weeks or months that it carries on for?

Fingers crossed for a better day today x

Thankyou Nas I appreciate that.

I have felt so nauseous the last two days too. Vomiting as I wake up. God when will this end!

I know I’m sensitive to hormone shifts but I really don’t think I’m progesterone intolerant as I’ve had two Mirena a before which have been fine and made me feel better and I always feel better in the progesterone part of my cycle x

Oh no 😟
Are you sure it’s the mirena ?
Maybe a bug?
Oestrogen fluctuating?

Maybe the coil needs to come out, give the body a rest and try again ? X

I think it coming out it may cause more problems for me after having one for so long. I’d probably crash. So feel quite stuck really. Sure it’s not a bug. I just have such varying symptoms each day since insertion x

I see, yes maybe not a good idea it coming out then, if it helps you.

Could you call the doc or nurse who fitted it for advice ? X

I heard back from the meno consultant I see (she deals with all womens health stuff as I’m not firmly in meno yet) and she said the pill puts out its highest levels in the first two weeks and then they decrease.
I’m trying to trust her but as we know, they don’t know everything. I guess we wouldn’t have this forum if they did! X

Sorry I meant the Mirena puts out more hormones in the first two weeks then decreases. I’m not on the pill.  I’ve not heard about this. I should trust her but it’s hard isn’t it!!

Vomiting and tears this morning then better late afternoon and feel pretty normal now. Just don’t get it x
