Testosterone replacement - issues
« on: July 08, 2022, 01:24:03 PM »

Hello,
I'm new here, I'm so worried at the moment. I wish I'd research more before starting tostran.

I'm 52 post meno been on hrt 3.5yrs.
I requested testosterone via GP - after seeing positive things. Prior to starting, my androgen levels were lower than the normal range.

GP prescribed 1 pump of 2% tostran every other day. I started with 1 pump on the same 3 days every week (so slightly less that alternate days). All good. Had a blood test 3 months later, my levels had increased but still lower end of normal range. So I decided to go with the prescribed amount - 1 pump every other day. Been doing that for 6 months, had routine blood test and told my levels now are sky high, way, way above normal female range!! Told to stop and go back in 4 wks for another bloodtest.  Has this happened to anyone else?
I have no symptoms associated with high levels no spots/hairloss/lower voice.  But I'm so concerned that they are so dramatically increased, could I have damaged my health?

I keep reading websites with advice on testosterone / menopause,  they all say important to get periodic blood tests to make sure levels remain in female range, but nothing about what if they have exceeded the range? how long will it take to leave my system? Presumably my levels will remain high for a period, even though I have stopped, could I still get masculizing symptoms?
Really appreciate any advice.
Thanks on advance

An update... I've been googling all day as so freaked out but this result and found this info on a medical website:

This test may exhibit interference when sample is collected from a person who is consuming a supplement with a high dose of biotin (also termed as vitamin B7 or B8, vitamin H, or coenzyme R). It is recommended to ask all patients who may be indicated for this test about biotin supplementation. Patients should be cautioned to stop biotin consumption at least 72 hours prior to the collection of a sample.

I've been taking biotin 5000ug supplements for the last 3 years, I'd had some hair loss back then (way before I started testosterone) due to a traumatic life event. My hair fully recovered a few months after but I kept up the daily supplement.

I will stop taking it and request another blood test. I think my level was 28% androgen,  the Dr seemed perplexed by it too.

Thanks for reading

Hi Kipertee

I'm glad to see that you seem to have found a reason for your blood results!

I too am on the same tostran prescription as you and am about 5 months in. I haven't had repeat bloods due to a delay in my specialist appointment but I have felt good results from using it.

You remind me I will need repeat bloods soon, so I'll chase them up. I will also check my supplements beforehand, so thank you for the tip!

I hope you've felt good results using it and you get sorted out with your results soon.

Take care
