Less Estrogel: less Utrogestan??
« on: July 07, 2022, 10:32:02 PM »

After lots of patient experimentation and appointment with hrt specialist it turns out that it's the Estrogel making my boots horrendously sore and giving me me extreme bloating and not the Utrogestan.
However,  I'm taking Utro 100mg 12 nights then 15 days off.
Since yesterday I'm using something like less than half a pump of Estrogel,  I  fact my boobs were so sore I skipped altogether yesterday evening and boobs improved by morning.
My question is if I'm taking very little Estrogel should I be taking even less Utrogestan?
I'm not concerned about 'breakthrough ' bleeding as I was having irregular periods with very variable flow before starting hrt, on the contrary I'm a bit freaked out by the fairly regular bleeds I'm having. Don't like it at all.

Hi the licensed dose of utrogestan is 200mg when taking it sequentially. Anything else would be off licence . x

The video I watched clearly advises the regime I am on : 100mg,  one tablet  vaginally  every night.  Hrt specialist confirmed this during my appointment.  Testosterone is also off licence but is still prescribed.
My question is,  as has been previously written about here, could that be reduced even further if taking even less estrogel.

Dotty is correct. The licensed amount is 200mg per night, for half the month - if you are on sequential. If you are on continuous, it is 100mg per night, every single night of the month.

And no, officially you can't reduce below the licensed amounts even if taking less estrogen. However in discussion with your doctor you might be able to and your doctor might want to monitor things by sending you for a scan every 6 months or so at first, to check that you are getting sufficient progesterone if you take less than this.

Hi
I decided to stop hrt altogether and have gone cold turkey!
Boobs are now back to normal and bloating gone.
Feeling physically normal again.
Should I develop any peri symptoms in the future I will be happy to start it again but for now I think I must have lots of oestrogen still floating around.

That makes complete sense. I do wonder whether with all the media coverage of the benefits of hrt that sometimes we start on the journey a little too soon?
