What to do now very depressed
« on: June 24, 2022, 05:36:44 PM »

Hi all sorry to moan I have tried the Estero Gel and Utrogestin and that made me very depressed so came off it for a few months, now been signed off work with severe meno symptoms, memory issues, hair falling out and bladder leakage ? Prolapse. Dr put me on Evo Conti 50 which I’ve been on for a week but was suicidal as the Progesterone doesn’t suit me, I have always had this trouble even with the pill years ago just can’t tolerate it.  I have looked through the Forum n decided to cut one in half for now and see if it helps.  I have an app with private meno specialist In Liverpool but not till end of August !!!!! Not sure whether I can cope till then still off work and feeling dreadful I could have an app with a herbalist but worried it won’t be strong enough. Any suggestions, I still have the gel n Utrogestin at home and Vagifem, the Vagifem seems to work well.  Any ideas what I should do as dreading the next few weeks and worried about going back to work. Think I might need testosterone as well. Sorry to Moan I am 62 and 4 years post meno

Hello Ann. Firstly, you are not moaning and please feel free to post on here.

I would try using the vagifem because it is the least likely to cause you any unwanted side effects. I think the bladder issue you have is very important to treat and vagifem should help. I think you said your GP did not give you ovestin. That can also help the outer area.

Like you, I cannot seem to find a progesterone I can tolerate. Is it possible for you to ask to try oestrogen patches alone and go for regular scans? This can work for some people.

Is there no NHS menopause clinic you could use? You can have phone appointments if they are far away from you.

Don't bother with a herbalist.  It isn't tested therefore not approved.  It may be dangerous to mix alternatives with prescribed medication.

Keep up with the Vagifem, it's a different kind of HRT designed specifically for vaginal atrophy.

Many cannot tolerate progesterone. Go with what Flossieteacake suggests and make an appt. with a dedicated menopause clinic.  Let us know how you get on.

Is the depression cyclical or due to recent HRT?

There will be a waiting list for a menopause clinic but please ask your GP to refer you as soon as you can. The sooner you are referred the sooner you can get an appointment. £250 for one appointment is a lot of money. I wonder if your GP would agree to you trying oestrogen alone and referring you for a scan until you are seen by a menopause clinic.

I agree with Flossieteacake - ask your GP for oestrogen alone, that at least will give an idea as to what is causing the symptoms.

£250.00 - what does one get for that?  An hour, being listened to ....... is it a menopause specialist?  If 1 feels supported that's not a lot.

Hi Ann
If you are anywhere near Liverpool, I recommend you try and see Dr Paula Briggs. She’s fantastic! Think i paid £180 for a consultation.

It’s probably the progesterone making you feel depressed.
Hang on in there!
