Worried as I started bleeding after 12 years psot meno and only being on hrt combined continuous for 8 months. Told jsut to come off it by GP even though by then id been bleeding 5 weeks. Now it has been 2 months on and off and sometimes like now heavy. I tried utrogesten vaginally and thought that would be ok but still happening. However as my GP was still insisting on waiting i arranged a private ultrasound last week and the lining was 10mm! They told me to make appointment with Gp and that i will need a biopsy. cannot even get to speak to a Gp until next week ( though they dont seem to ahvbe a clue anyway about doses etc)so i have asked them to refer me. Not sure whether to try doubling the utrogesten, im now only using one pump of gel! Or just to stop altogether until I can get biopsy. Im hoping it is just the hrt the cause of thickening. i did have endometriosis though and still have two small fibroids. i was finally given hrt after osteoporosis diagnosis last year aged 60. Im thinking now could the lining have already been too thick, its a shame you dont get an ultrasound before starting hrt! Could 8 months on hrt really cause the lining to thicken so much unless of course I wasnt digesting the utrogesten properly as im coeliac and lactose intolerant. anyone else had anything similar and can offer advice please.

Hi yes, Ive had the same thing.  57...and 7 years post meno.  I've had all the tests....ultrasound, pipette biopsy, hyseroscopy and had a polyp removed.  All tests have come back fine. I've been told it's "just one of those things".  I lowered my dose and the bleeding continued, so I've put it back up again.  Hoping that it's stopped now. x

Thanks for that. was your lining quite high too, I was shocked at the 10mm! Did you mean your bleeding has finally stopped? Its a case of experimenting yourself it seems doesnt it! Glad it worked out for you. x

Hi the first time it happened my lining was 6mm. Then a year later it was 9mm and then a few months later it was 11mm. This last reading meant I had to have a hysteroscopy. The bleeding keeps stopping and starting. It’s stopped for the time being. I’ll have to go,back to my GP if it starts again, but my GP has already said that she doesn’t know what to do !!!! x

Same here, Nigela - bled almost every day last year from February until November. I didn't have overall thickening, just one area which got to 12mm and turned out to be a polyp. Your GP should have put you on the 2 week fast path to get it checked out.  It might be the utrogestan isn't counter balancing the oestrogen and you might need a different dose, or a coil.  A coil is what they'll probably suggest.

yes I did say to my GP should I be on the 2 week fast track? but she just told me to stop all hrt and then only if it was still bleeding in 6 weeks time to ring back! No help whatsoever! I think im going to try a double dose of utrogesten and see if it helps. Hope you get sorted too.

Also Applejack, did the rmoval of your poly stop the bleeding? I do have two small fibroids which were seen on the ultrasound.

Unfortunately not - they're apparantly caused by the oestrogen part of my HRT so at the moment my options are to stop, or just keep having them removed. Two bad choices there.

Initially I was told to double up on utrogestan, which is what I was on at the time the bleeding started. So two daily continuous is fine. My GP told me to try this, and also the meno specialist who you can write to on here, so it's worth a try.
