Test result help
« on: June 20, 2022, 02:22:56 PM »

Hi, I need help with my test results. My meno specialist asked my gp to do a FAI before I started Testosterone, 3 months ago. However only the testosterone was tested  0.9nmol/l
i decided to use medichecks to get a baseline 1 week later and before starting testosterone.
testosterone 1.24 nmol/l
SHBG 130 nmol/l
FAI  1
oestradiol 304 pmol/l

I have just  received new results via GP, 3 months on from starting testosterone I am also on 3 pumps oestrogel. I am postmeno.
Testosterone no figure given
SHBG  130nmol/l
FAI 1.7
oestradiol 182 pmol/l

assuming that the FAI is correct is this a high reading? Or is this the testosterone reading mis recorded?
and why would the oestrodial reduce?
the gp has asked for a review so just want to know what I should expect.
thank you so much

FAI is fine if a little low. So you have room to increase if you still have symptoms of low testosterone. Re your oestrogen readings. Were your blood tests taken at exactly the same time of day each time? I'm thinking maybe one was taken sooner after you applied the gel. Which would explain. Otherwise maybe you still despite being post Meno have your own mini fluctuations still occuring. Worth retesting because 184 is a bit low so you may not be getting as much benefit as you could be.

Hi Hopeful

Have you enquired why the testosterone result is missing. Your FAI has improved which is good but still not optimal, I think from memory optimal is 2.5 but some specialist’s think this optimal is too low.

No idea why your E has dropped though! X

Thank you gnatty and marchlove
Good point gnatty about time of day as although they were both done in the morning the first time I applied the gel before getting the test and the 2nd time I didn’t put the gel on until after so it was 14 hours since I had applied my gel (one of my 3 pumps I apply in the evening) so maybe this is the reason. I am thinking of going to patches as the gel is a nuisance and now it would seem not too good.
Marchlove, I have a telephone appointment on 4th July and I will ask about the missing result.

My FAI was 3% and my GP (Newson) said that was perfect and I should keep doing what I'm doing. What I'm doing is a bit random in that it's hard to judge a blob of Testogel and sometimes a sachet lasts a couple of days longer than another  ;D  But anyway, it's about right.

My estrogen was a bit low last time at 233nmol and yours is even lower, so I reckon you could increase the estrogen.
