Testosterone
« on: April 24, 2022, 08:56:47 PM »

Hi everyone,
Are there any members using Testosterone for Menopause symtoms?
I asked my gp about it - he simply stated "they" do not test or prescribe Testosterone.
I have read on the NICE website that it seems that Testosterone for menopausal use can purchased privately at a retroble chemist? But you need a gp approval?
# I have tried Testosterone previously from a private prescription- BHRT- in a nutshell a couldn't afford to keep paying this horrendous amount of money to a private clinic.

## I have no interest in sex. My libido is libido is nil. ***

I am postmenopausal but still get bad menopausal symtoms.

Love to you all. Xxx

They don’t need to test it Booblet, you should go by symptoms.

My advice would be to print off the Nice guidelines and a few other studies and give to your Gp. Might you perhaps be able to change Gp if this doesn’t work?

The more informed you are the better you will be able to refute their dismissal and argue your case.

Don’t use up too much energy with this route if it looks like it’s getting you nowhere but ask for a referral to a menopause clinic.

Best if luck and let us know how you get on xx

I found that my GP's won't prescribe the testosterone, even if recommended by my consultant (private GP who specialises in menopause). So I pay for the testosterone privately as it is what makes the rest of the HRT come together somehow....like a circuit is reconnected...it is now on the NICE guidelines, but didn't seem to make any difference to my GP...

Blame the bureaucracy not the gp. Because there isn't a product licensed for women the gp is directly responsible for anything that happens. Few gps will take the risk and you can't really blame them. You should be able to get it from an NHS meno clinic but expect a long wait. Once it's been prescribed by a specialist GPS will usually (not always) prescribe. Perhaps it's a question for the hrt tsar.
