Utrogestan vaginally - 100mg or 200mg??
« on: April 21, 2022, 06:15:21 PM »

I'm about to start HRT, 50. I've got Evorel 25 patches & Utrogestan 100 from the GP

So next period (still reasonably regular) will be day 1 then I will take the Utrogestan days 15-26 - oral dose is 2 x 100mg caps at night (200mg)

However, I want to take it vaginally. But I keep seeing conflicting advice on dosage. Shall I still insert 2 x 100mg caps days 15-26 or can I get away with a lower dose vaginally (as suggested by Newson Health) and therefore do 1 x 100mg caps days 15-26?

What are other people who take the Utrogestan vaginally doing?

I take 200mg x 12 days vaginally as per the manufacturer's instructions. Perhaps see how you are on it and consider a lower dose if you have side effects? At your low dose of oestrogen the lower dose *should* be OK but always best to go off piste with the knowledge and agreement of your doc. Take your pick if you believe the manufacturer or newson.

Sheila, how you you find taking the 200mg utrogestan? Does it make you feel drowsy or spaced out in the morning? I want to try cyclical with my patch, but a bit scared. I was fine with 100mg nightly.

I get fatigue on it, dopey in the day but doesn't help with sleep at night. I did try 100mg x 12 days, felt just as bad and didn't have a bleed. The lack of a bleed is the main reason I didn't try it again though I often have the same problem with 200mg. If you're fine on 100mg there's a good chance 200mg will be OK.

Ah thanks Sheila
Mmm. Can’t afford to be dopey during the day unfortunately.
100mg nightly was fine, but didn’t control bleeding at all.

Options are
1. Cyclical with patch
2. Coil with patch
3. norethisterone with patch
4. Continue with femeston and add a spray of lenzetto

I think there's a possibility you're still peri? So cyclical is probably worth a try as you don't want a coil. I don't know much about norethisterone (apart from in the evorel patch), at one time hurdity used it once or twice a year when she was trialling long cycle gel/utro, the implication was that it would ensure the lining was thin. I asked for it when I didn't bleed on utro but gp wouldn't prescribe.

This is the thing Sheila, I just don’t know where I am in this journey.
I had a whole 27 months without a period or any kind of bleeding.
I used Conti gel and utrogestan for over a year with no bleeding.
Bloods keep confirming post menopause??

I don’t understand.
