What to do, what to do!
« on: April 07, 2022, 02:34:37 PM »

Hi,
So MS has given me femeston conti ( 1mg). Been on it 2.5 months. It’s ‘ okay’ in that mood is stable ( ish) and I’m functioning.  However , I feel it isn’t enough. Sleep is bad, joint  aches are lurking and bladder issues ( despite vagifem, Ovestin and YES products ) are never too far away.

MS is saying I must be on a low dose as I’ve had breast cancer ( 12 years ago) She isn’t fan of higher doses anyway.

Oestrogen reading on FC is 300. MS says that’s okay.

I did last month, add a spray of lenzetto to the mix. Whilst I felt better, I bled within week and then bladder issues kicked in big time.

I’m prone to bleeding and the only other option I can see, is the coil with oestrogen. Trying to avoid that, I don’t want a foreign object in my body.

Any thoughts?

If it's a foreign body or nowt?  It's early days yet, 3-5 months is recommended to see if a regime settles symptoms.  After all the body doesn't get where it is suddenly so it has to uptake any added hormones into the system.  it also isn't a complete cure in many cases.

For the aches and pains take 'nurofen'.  It settles mine within couple of hours.  As for bladder issues, again 2 'nurofen' capsules 3 times a day eases the need2P feelings.  MayB you need more 'vagifem' - some ladies add an extra pessary mid-day and use every night as well as applying 'ovestin' around the outer labia.  It can take a while to feel better.

What's an MS?  :-\.  There are many ways of delivering HRT and quality of life is important.  How much evidence over all is that HRT will trigger cancer anyway?

I'm not sure this is a decision we can help you with. There seem to be 2 issues, the cancer risk and the bleeding. Presumably you have carefully considered the risk and, I think, decided it's a risk you're willing to take? So that leaves the bleeding. It seems that increasing the dose without the bleeding problems will mean a mirena so it depends how much the benefits of feeling better outweigh (or not) the foreign body aversion. For me it would be a no brainer as the chance I would feel better are very good and the chance of a bad reaction to the mirena are very small so for me it would be worth trying it. But that doesn't mean it's the right decision for you.

It is something that can be removed if necessary?  If so how long does the hormone remain in the body after removal?  MayB put 'mirena coil' into the search box, make notes ;-)

Thanks both
I guess I need to continue my quest to find a regime which suits ( and deal with the bladder issue)

CLKD, does nurofen work for your bladder issues? I may try the same. My mum has mentioned a drug for irritable bladder? It’s not for infection, but just for an irritated bladder.
I’m using daily vagifem sometimes twice daily and Ovestin.

MS is menopause specialist.. GP is being guided by her essentially.

Quality of life is important but I can’t quite get the balance right still. I’m not sure that HRT poses much risk to me. After all, these are low doses of hormones which I’m replacing not adding to.

Oxybutynin is a drug for irritable bladder… pill or patch I think. My friend was prescribed it. x

It certainly does help my bladder ...... 2 capsules of 'nurofen' 3 times a day for 3 days or when symptoms ease.

Add more VA treatment too ;)

I thought of you as I was dropping off to sleep: would you consider stopping HRT (not VA treatment) to see where your body might be?

Have you got any food grade bicarbonate of soda? Half a teaspoon in a glass of water three times a day may help alongside Vagifem/Ovestin/everything else etc until the local estrogen kicks in.

Nas I feel for you, it’s a question of trials I’m afraid!  What have you got to use re trying mirena?  It could be a good answer to solving your problems!

Iv had bc too and I’m on 2mg Estrogen only tablet which has not worked so well for me since my first vaccine and I have had an awful time.
I wud try anything just to stop these fluctuations which affect my mental well being. X

Thanks Victoria. I will try the bicarbonate soda experiment, nothing to lose at least. X

Sweettooth, sorry to hear of your struggles.
Which HRT are you currently on? I’ve read many stories where the vaccine has interrupted the effectiveness of HRT and it’s so frustrating I’m sure.
I sincerely hope you begin to feel better soon as I know how hellish this journey can be. Maybe switch to a different product to see if you get relief that way? X
