*ANOTHER*update on Year Wait for Menopause Clinic thing
« on: March 23, 2022, 05:28:20 PM »

Just a small update, after phoning the gynae clinic last week (NHS) and being told possibly a years wait, I got a letter in the post this morning and my consultation is in about three weeks !

So overall a wait of around three months since referral. I don’t know if my ringing up had anything to do with the appointment coming through, but I’m pleased anyway!

Well would you believe it but the GP has asked the menopause clinic directly about the prescribing issue they have (is it safe to go to higher dose patch with migraine with aura) - they came straight back to the GP yesterday and said yes that’s safe.

Hopefully that might help my fellow migraine people out there!

To add, the GP asked if I wanted to try a higher patch now, I had to decline as I am now in the middle of changing antiD from fluoxetine to venlafaxine to try to help flushes/migraines/mood. I got pretty desperate at the thought of having to wait a whole year so decided to take action! This was all started before the blooming appointment/advice came through and I decided to go ahead with it anyway.

I will give the venlafaxine time to work and then decide on higher patch or not.

The menopause clinic appointment itself hasn’t been cancelled (yet) since the contacted GP  so unless it is I have decided to go ahead with it anyway to a) get their advice and b) get myself in the system for now.

So progress of sorts

It is great your GP asked the menopause clinic rather then you having to wait for the appointment there. I really hope you get on well with the venlafaxine.

Thank you! I hope so too. Yes I had to speak to a different GP from the one that made the referral in the first place (the original one is the woman’s health specialist and is now very popular and hard to get an appointment with!!). The second one was the one that actually contacted the clinic for me. So you never know! It’s all a minefield as I’m finding out.
