Need a good specialist who understands progesterone woes
« on: March 09, 2022, 09:01:13 AM »

Hi there this is my first post I'm 47 and started oestrogel and utrogestan in October last year. Straight away the cyclical regime of utrogestan made me feel wretched, so flat and exhausted. So I paid for a private consultant and she said I can go continuous regime even though I still menstruate. So now I do day 1-25.but I still feel flat and low energy on the utrogestan days. I take it at night, also switched to vaginal against her recommendation to try it out but still isn't resolved. I want to see a specialist who understands progesterone intolerance eg Dr Newson but don't want to wait months for an appt. Can anyone recommend another specialist who is open to a reduced and monitored progesterone regime please? I tried mini pill when I was younger and felt horrendous on that so think maybe I'm intolerant. Thanks all

Hi Earls Mum
Hopefully other members will be along soon with good recommendations.
In the meantime many members  I believe take the Utro on alternate nights so that might be an option. Search other threads for views/ help regarding this.

Exhausted and flat can be a excess progesterone symptom. Have you and other symptoms?

Also, I wonder a lot recently about how much the time of day you take hrt plays a part. What time of day do you take your oestrogel? xx

Hi Earls Mum

I hear you on the flat & low as I’m someone who is very progesterone in tolerant. I had a zoom consultation with Dr Beverley Benster at Professor Studds clinic who was so understanding, kind and knowledgeable. She advised me to take it for 10 days (12 days if I could stand it) vaginally every month. It meant I’d then have a bleed but it was the only way I could tolerate it.
She’s still listed on the website as at that clinic so it’s worth a try. If not I know there are others that may be understanding at that same practice. Hope this helps and you get it sorted, I really sympathise with you on this.

Thanks so much Marchlove and Louise. Sounds very optimistic. Taking it for less time or alternate is very appealing. I'll look up Dr Beverly Benster for sure.
I take utrogestan at night and oestrogel in the morning. Is this the best way do you think? I'm not having any other side effects, just low energy and flat / low mood with the utrogestan and then a mild headache on my days off of it.

Difficult to know with the oestrogel whether taking it at night with the Utro would work better.
You could try and see or wait to see what a specialist suggests xx

Hi

Utrogestan nearly killed me. I was a suicidal wreck. Provera has been a life saver for me - on continuous. There are other progesterone options for us intolerant women x

Hey - I just wanted to say that if you would be prepared to have a video consult, the Newson Clinic can offer these much earlier than in-person appointments. I was desperate and on their waiting list, so I emailed them and explained my desperation and asked to be told about any last minute cancellations they might have - and said I'd need a video consult.

I was immediately sent their questionnaire and got booked in with one of their doctors the very next day. My HRT got sent to me. It might be a record  ;D - I emailed them on Monday, completed questionnaire and called on Tuesday, got booked for consult on Weds and received HRT in the post on Friday  :)

So I know they have a very long waiting list, but do email them and plead special consideration for a video consult would be my recommendation  :)
