Well, I took the advice to get my thyroid tested yesterday. Are you all sitting down?  By 9.30 this morning, I received a TEXT from a central, no-reply number to say my results were "normal". The gp said he'd "add in a few other things" and I've no idea what those were. How uninformative a system is this now?! I'm outraged, but also fearful for others who may not have the capacity or desire to question, potentially putting themselves at risk. Oh dear, this is a new low in the NHS to me! 👎

Ask for a print out of it all. It’s an outrage, makes me wonder how many woman are actually hypothyroid and don’t even know it, just think it’s all meno symptoms.
Don’t forget the TSH upper  range in the states is 2.5 and some think it should be less than that. Totally useless test anyway.
My faith and trust in the NHS hit an all time low years ago when I got Lyme disease. At least my GP had the courage to tell me that what he knew about it you could write on a postage stamp!
Seems like thyroid can be added to the list. Honestly it makes me wonder what they do teach them in med school for all those years. How to write a prescription with the word “anti” always in front of it!
Rant over …..  xx

My surgery will send them on email, easier for me than a print out as it saves going to the surgery. I think they have a duty to give you them if you ask.

Hi there. I have CFS and had sudden onset severe meno symptoms eight months ago. Have been given ever increasing doses of estrogen patches. Now up to 200 but think I’m getting worse rather than better. My nervous system is in really bad shape now and my cfs is getting worse. Anxiety is also getting much worse. I’m sure one thing is related to the other but currently no idea what to do about it. I suspect you are on the right track with your thoughts. I am also noticing that my symptoms seem to get worse  after every patch changover day. Overall it’s been a nightmare.

Hi Dawnp.
You have my sympathy. It's a terribly frustrating, confusing and worrying thing. I can only speak from personal experience, which I feel is important, but, for me, as someone who has always reacted to overstimulation of the autonomic nervous system, particularly the sympathetic and parasympathetic prongs, the introduction of HRT has created a state of alert and my "symptoms" now relate far more to that than HRT per se. Calming the system right down has always been the only solution for me. There is a theory that oestrogen is stimulatory and, if accurate, that flies in the face totally of what my nervous system needs. I hope you find a track best suited to you and as soon as possible. 😊

Hello again ladies.

Postmeno3 - How frustrating that you didn't get detailed results from your GP!

In the past I have arranged for a printout of my results but lately the information has been sent to me by PDF. I note that if everything is within range the  lab include the comment 'no action required' however if a result is outside of the parameters the comment is 'make an appointment with your doctor'.

I may have missed this aspect of your story but have you had your Oestrogen levels checked to establish where in the range you are as a post menopausal woman? This information would at least tell you if you are absorbing your HRT. I agree though that it can be a complicated business and other factors also have an impact on how you feel.

Wishing you well and take care.

Hi Kathleen.
You're very lucky with your surgery operating in that way. Nothing is done by that medium at mine, not even with the Practice Manager.
My story has been a whole year of trying to prove absorption via various delivery methods and, yes, eventual testing. Initially, 60ish on patches and gel then 260ish on Lenzetto. I'm becoming less convinced by ranges (for anything!), but the NHS specialist thought this was ok and I was good to go for testosterone which has thrown things into further disarray. I have lost so, so much of what little I had, with M.E., previously, that the HRT route feels incompatible with me and I truly don't feel that throwing any more at is going to be beneficial in my case. It's not for everyone and I want the good enough quality of life I had grown used to pre-HRT and not this continuing and worsening deterioration of it. Thanks for your well-wishing and it's reciprocated!

Gosh. Your thoughts echo mine so so much. I also feel I have lost even more of what little I had. I’m finding it devastating at the moment. Sending best wishes and I hope you find a solution that’s best for you.
