Sandrena gel instead of oestrogel
« on: March 03, 2022, 08:04:53 AM »

Hi , has anyone had to switch from Oestrogel to Sandrena sachet gel due to shortage of Oestrogel ?
Pharmacy has no oestrogel and no idea of when they will receive it again so in meantime i have to find something else.
Or to Lenzetto spray ?

I am right in thinking that if on 4 pumps daily of oestrogel the equivalent is 2 sachets of 1mg Sandrena?
And what about Lenzetto please?
And if you have used it how do they compare to oestrogel ?
Any feedback welcome
Thank you

Hi Sfifties

I cant help with the oestrogel except  from what I gather, as it's made by Besins and has the same mixing compounds, and from how women report it on here, then it is like Testogel and as such is quick drying. Sandrena which I have used is completely different and is thicker and quite sticky - and similar to Testim gel which I have also used. It is rubbed in rather than spread and takes a while to dry.

In terms of equivalence - not sure how they will compare as they are different concentrstions and will be absorbed differently however exact dosage: 2 sachets of 1 mg Sandrena = 2 mg. 4 pumps of estrogel = 3 mg so to have exactly the same you would need 3 sachets. You may absorb the Sandrena better though as it's more concentrated and dries slower?

Sorry cant help with the Lenzetto but I would do a search as there are a few women who have tried/are using it.

Hope this helps a little :)

Good luck with whatever you choose!

Thank you Hurdity ,
my Gp has prescribed me 3 months of hrt and although after last consultation i was to start on 4 pumps of oestrogel she has prescribed :
90 utrogestan tablets (3 months worth as i take it continuously), but only 90 1mg sandrena sachets so that’s definitely not the equivalent now that oestrogel is not available in my area .
Will have to contact as otherwise will run out of gel before utrogestan .
Trying to find a chart that proves the equivalent dosage .
Thanks again for confirming.

This is a link to the British Menopause Society document that gives equivalent doses.

Thank you Dotty.
I keep having this issue with my Gp she is happy to prescribe utrogestan for 3 months but had the same issue with oestrogel ( when avail) , she moved me on 4 pumps a day but she would only prescribe 4 oestrogel bottles  for the 3 months of utro,
have sent an email to explain
90 utrogestan = 6 bottles oestrogel ( 1 80 gr bottle has 2 pumps worth for a month so for 3 months i need 2 bottles a month = 6 for 90 days.
It seems like basic maths but she is just reluctant to prescribe the estrogen part of hrt ..
It’s really a struggle .
Do you know at all when the one charge only for hrt will be starting ?
Thanks

Hi Sfifties I’m on the same as you and I get 3 boxes of utrogestan  and 6 cans of Oestrogel every three months. Not been able to get my Oestrogel this time though.

The yearly charge for hrt is supposed to be April but I think the feeling is it won’t happen then !

I started HRT on Oestrodose (French version of Oestrogel) which was brilliant.  I was only on one pump and everything disappeared and my energy was back.  Next bottle was Oestrogel and most of my symptoms came back so I was switched to Lenzetto.  Started on two sprays and upped to 3 about a month ago.  I’m still not where i was on one pump of Oestrodose and my skin and scalp has become so itchy again I can’t bear it.  Will talk to my consultant in a couple of weeks and think about changing again.  Lenzetto is so easy to use, it dries within 2 minutes but it’s definitely not as strong as they initially thought.  The gel was taking 30 mins to dry on me which was ridiculous first thing in the morning but I may look into Sandrena or a patch.  the Lenzetto leaflet says 3 sprays is the max you can take so I don’t think it’s going to work for me at all.

Hi Dotty, thanks you for your update including the Lenzetto, i asked the pharmacist and strangely he had never heard of it and they do not stock it or dispense at all in my area(i am in London ).
Will ask about Oestrodose ,french version means you get in in France or available in uk too ?
I agree the Oestrogel takes a bit of time to dry ,haven’t started the sandrena sachets yet but I expect it to take even longer from the details Hurdity gave in her reply but i have no other choice at the moments although will have to research the different patches if even sandrena becomes unavailable as if there’s is shortage of oestrogel they might soon be one of sandrena.
But my problem is to make my gp prescribe me the right rough equivalent dose rather than half as now i got 3 months of utrogestan but 1.5 of gel !
