Irregular cycles on Evorel Sequi
« on: May 16, 2022, 08:57:44 AM »

I’ve been using Evorel Sequi for about 6 months and for the 3 few months I had a bleed every 28 days as expected when I changed to the progesterone patches. But for the last 3 months the bleeds have been getting more unpredictable and now happen every 40 days or so regardless of where I am in my patch cycle. Is this normal or should I speak to my GP?

Hello I am in the same boat (albeit) with utrogestan. It seems that my own cycle overrides the utrogestan every time. I have been on HRT seven months and not had a “withdrawal” bleed yet (ie have bled according to my own cycle). I have spoken to my NHS consultant about this and he said that as long as you have a bleed, that’s OK.

But I do worry about when my periods start to space out more (cycles went very close together for a couple of years and are now getting longer and longer). At some point surely there will be no bleed for several months and then it gets to be a problem …

But then perhaps by then my own cycle will be more feeble and maybe the progesterone will be able to take over properly? Hoping so. I will cross that bridge when I come to it I’ve decided.

Would be interested in what others say about this.

Yes I have been wondering about how I will know when my natural cycles have stopped too - my go practice doesn’t have anyone who specialises in menopause so I have only been able to speak to a locum doctor to get my HRT prescribed and he had no clue!

I would either change to a different GP practise (if you know any that has a knowledgeable GP) or ask to be referred to a menopause clinic. I was as the GP was unsure about something and I have spoken to a consultant after three months wait which isn’t too bad.

I had the same problem as my natural cycle was longer than 28 days. I fould my own cycle was always stronger than the hrt one. I changed to gel/utro where I can change the cycle length. I can tell when I ovulate (many people can't) so I start utro a day or two after. The only way to tell for certain your own cycle has stopped is to come off hrt. You may find you can distinguish between your own bleed and an hrt bleed, for me the hrt bleed is very short and light by comparison.
