Update on hysteroscopy
« on: February 20, 2022, 07:06:27 AM »

Hi all! Following my hysteroscopy I have been diagnosed with simple hyperplasia for which they want to use the mirena. After a wobbly time with periods Sept thru Dec ( heavier spotting or lighter and longer all around the time of my jabs) my periods are now back to regular and normal for me and the gynae who called me said 52 isn't too old to have periods (out of the gynae team  that's 2 it is and 2 it isn't  ::). I'm waiting for an appointment and he said I could start the hrt originally prescribed until then even though another Dr said I shouldn't add oestrogen due to small fibroids. Not wonder we get confused when the specialists give mixed messages.  Thankfully I used Dr Currie's email service and she was very helpful!

Hello jorainbow.

Thank you for your update.

It may interest you to know that in my late forties I had a small fibroid which didn't require treatment.  I later went on to HRT and after an episode of bleeding a hysteroscopy revealed that the fibroid had disappeared.

I was also having regular and normal periods until I was 54. They then stopped suddenly and never returned meaning I became officially post meno at 55 ( I am 65 now).

I agree that this can all be very confusing but hopefully my experience reassures you that the menopause comes in various forms lol.

Take care.

K.

Thanks Kathleen! I wasn't concerned until the 2 week fast track referral because 'I shouldn't be bleeding' so glad that all came back OK. Didnt do my nerves much good though!!!

Both scans were done just before my periods so I'm hesitant to have the coil when I'm not bleeding heavily or out of the norm. I guess I'll just have to wait to see what they say.
