Week 4 on testogel and spotting
« on: January 12, 2022, 11:13:02 AM »

Hi,
I started HRT in March last year and am currently on 2 pumps of oestrogel and one utrogestan pill per night. My last period was at age 45. Im nearly 49 now. When I went up to 3 pumps I started to bleed so went back to 2 pumps. Now after nearly 4 weeks on testosterone I've noticed blood again this morning. Can this happen with testosterone?

Sorry can't answer - it's a nuisance though!  How do you feel overall?

So I started HRT mainly for my benign ectopics which have stopped in recent months after over 2 years of them daily. This is really good news for me but I really don't know if it was the HRT. I also want to protect my bones and brain etc. However, I still feel dizzy, tired, low mood,  burp a lot, no libido..so still waiting for that magic moment when I feel like my young self again. These celebs seem to achieve this on HRT. Maybe I'll never feel right again.

I would see your gp, any unexpected post menopausal bleeding should be investigated. I don't think T is known for causing bleeding, I've never been affected this way. It's possible you a a fibroid or polyp.

Thanks for the replies ladies. I had a scan in october and luckily escaped the hysteroscopy after my scan showed a thin wall and I do have a couple of small fibroids. I went back to 2 pumps of oestrogel and the bleeding stopped. They said it must've been me upping to three pumps. No idea what my body is doing right now. Due for a smear this year too.

I agree with sheila - more likely to be the increase in oestrogen. Also if you are taking daily utrogestan - whether or not you bleed might also depend whether you have reached menopause. If yu started HRT before 12 months had elapsed since your last natural period then you were not post-meno so bleeding from your natural cycle could be expected. Even if on conti HRT (and especially if stable on HRT for some time) then yes unexplained bleeding should be investigated even though probably not a problem.

Also you need to give T time to work - when I was first prescribed it the doc told me it could take 4-5 months to take effect as the changes in the body are not immediate.

Thanks Hurdity. My periods stopped in 2019. I started HRT in 2021.  I had no bleeding on 2 pumps then upped it to 3 pumps some 4 months after starting HRT then started to bleed, so have been on 2 pumps since and had been bleed free since November. I just wasn't expecting to bleed on 2 pumps.  Womb lining is thin. Just have a few small fibroids apparently.
