Splitting Estradiol Gel Dose
« on: January 21, 2021, 03:49:20 PM »

Hi everyone, I'm still deciding if HRT benefits outweigh risks for me because I'm hypersensitive to drugs, so I'm interested in your personal experience regarding splitting estradiol gel dose am/pm.

Has splitting the dose made any difference regarding symptoms, compared to a single daily dose?

Have you been prescribed this regime or have you been experimenting on your own account?

Do you (or your doctor) know of studies regarding this subject?

Experiences with current available products (in the UK or overseas) Oestrogel, Oestrodose, Sandrena, Divigel, Estreva and so on, are welcome.

Thank you.

I split my Estrogel into two doses, night and morning as i use 4 pumps a day. If i put it on all in one go at night it makes me feel jumpy!

On 3 pumps oestrodose I used it once a day. Now I'm on 4 I do 2 pumps morning and night. I haven't noticed a difference. I may not be very sensitive to it though. During lambing when the 'nighttime' dose can be 3-4 am and the morning dose 9am I don't notice a difference to peri symptoms (or maybe I feel so sh*t anyway from lack of sleep I don't notice them).

Thank you all.

Tinkerbell, have you ever tried to use all 4 pumps in the morning? Maybe it would be a plus to feel jumpy? Has your doctor agreed with this regime? Do you have any remaining menopause symptoms or has this regime sorted them all?

Sheila99, is your lack of sleep a menopause symptom or a 'lambing side effect'?

Avalon, yes I would require a progestogen and I'm highly intolerant to them, including Utrogestan (as expected), I have tried Estradot 25 and it didn't help with menopausal symptoms. May I ask you why do you prefer to apply the gel at night? Doesn't it make you feel jumpy, like Tinkerbell?

I was hoping for more responses, but I guess the forum has been quiet. Covid-19 worries, probably.

Hi, I am new to the gel and recently my estrogen has measured 66 pmol/L so increased my prescribed 2 pumps to 3 (not prescribed) and apply the 3rd at night (I never know if to apply all at once) hoping to feel a difference to my symptoms. Today after applying the 3rd pump  I felt  random shakes almost like a twitch!  May be a coincidence. Not sure gel is managing my symptoms at all to be honest.  I have to wait until March until I can speak to a specialist again.

Insomnia was a meno symptom but this is from staying up with sheep that are lambing.
One of the things this forum has taught me is just how different we all are and how we react so differently. I think all you can do is try it and see.

I’ve tried both ways. I don’t find a significant difference either way, so currently, I apply just once daily to keep it simpler. After my evening shower for me.

Thank you, sed. Why don't you apply all 3 pumps in the morning? Do you think it's difficult to apply or wait for the gel to dry? How long have you been on the gel and what are your current symptoms?

You seem very nervous of it.  Don't be.  There's no need.  You don't have to do what your doctor tells you to do exactly.  Treatment is a two-way thing.

I am using Lenzetto spray now, but I was on gel for over a year.  It made me feel very wired if I put 3 pumps on at the same time.  Not a nice feeling.  So I split am/pm.  I see Dr Newson, she told me to split the dose if I wanted to try it.  At the highest point I was using 4 pumps a day evenly split, but I got new symptoms from gel so had to stop.  Give it a try.  It won't harm you.

In my experience Uptick, too much oestrogen contributes to anxiety/jumpiness. A balance b/w e&p important.
Back to applying e at night after you highlighted the advice to use e&p at the same time.
Sleep has always been an issue for me an my current regime is working well for that.
Yes, progesterone is the hard part. Good luck!

Thank you Avalon. Someone, I think it was Dotty, said Utrogestan leaflet is probably referring to use oestrogen at the same time as a general statement, as in use Utrogestan along with oestrogen. Glad it's working for you. I suppose the jittery effect of oestrogen can be suppressed to some extent by the sedative effect of progesterone.

Thank you, SueLW. I'm not nervous, my problem is hypersensitivity to chemicals in general and drugs in particular. I know Dr Newson prescribes splitting the dose, but she doesn't explain where that information comes from or the rationale behind it. I'm a scientist and that's how my brain works, if I don't know what I'm doing I feel like a guinea pig and that is not how I want to feel.

i was put on 4 pumps of estrogel, i tried applying 4 sprays of the gel and it brought on breast pain.  so i only doing three sprays of gel. i still have breast pain unfortunately and wonder if i was to split the dose into equal morning and evening if it would help with the breast pain.
Any advice would be helpful, right now.

What we're you on before the 4 pumps? I think it's unlikely splitting the dose will help. It's usually from too much oestrogen though it may settle over time. Increasing more slowly may help.

I was on 3 pumps before but my hot fluhes are horrendous still , so was upped to 4 sprays of gel at night, i took it down to three sprays at night, but i have now taken it down to 2 at night and 1 in the morning and the breast pain is starting to get a little better now

hopefully, things will continue to get better.....i can live in hope.
