What I would tell my younger self is the same as what I say to my younger sisters, enjoy your life now as much as you can because your older self will become full of age related ailments. When you go out socialising with friends your main topic of conversation will be health matters and not the usual office gossip once enjoyed with a glass of wine, now its usually a cup of tea!

When I was in my fifties I had a good menopause because I had a GP that specialised in HRT and had no problem getting what I needed for those first signs of menopause symptoms. Now in my seventies with VA and again no problem getting the right treatment needed for this horrid condition.

I have told my sisters that I am back on HRT, they look at me in shock and ask why, then I tell them!

Looking back, I would advise my younger self to question my GP who told me I had been on HRT too long after 5 years and was now too old to continue.

I would urge my younger self to be quicker about changing to a new GP which is what I eventually did.  Needless to say I am now back on HRT and feeling normal again.

Looking back, i would’ve told myself when in peri, don’t be complacent, because although I sailed through peri, when I reached post meno, everything hit me like a ton of bricks.
For years of missed periods, I think I knew in my heart I was going through something, but thought it was easy. Never really admitting to myself I was menopausal. And anyway, I was only in my 40s, so I thought I was too young. How wrong was I? I knew nothing about menopause except for hot flushes and no more periods, and I generally thought it happened to everyone over the age of 50. 🤷🏼‍♀️
Went through hell, started HRT, and after what seemed like an eternity, found a HRT that suited me.
This site helped me enormously, it educated me, it supported me, and was there when I needed a laugh.
I’m still learning about menopause, but at least now, I’m more settled in myself and can help others if it arises. All from this amazing site and its members.
Thanks to everyone. xx

Whatsupwiththis  I wish we didn’t have that in common for both our sakes!  It’s good to know though that there are others on this forum who are going through the same thing and you’re not alone.  So glad I found this forum.  Happy Christmas to all.

I wish I had seriously looked after my adrenals. After years of stress I had adrenal exhaustion which I think made the transition through perimenopause much harder.

And while we're at it, look after your liver too! I'm prone to estrogen dominance  but I'm sure some regular detoxes and a better diet would have allowed my body to handle HRT so much better.

Sigh! Hindsight is a wonderful thing....

I agree with you totally, Jasmine20. I'm not sure if the hormones can get back on track once the adrenals have become so, so overworked and depleted. We live in hope, though. This is why I'm keen to investigate DHEA.

I wish I had known about the importance of progesterone in the early stages of the menopause.   I had no idea what to expect and I didn't realise that progesterone starts to drop off in your late 30s.  In my case, it caused the sudden onset of claustrophobia and panic attacks and latterly, silent migraines.   Had I known, I would have started HRT much sooner.

There is nowhere near enough information out there although that is starting to change now.
