Estrogel still low, testosterone quite high
« on: January 29, 2022, 10:59:01 PM »

Hi Ladies,
I was wondering if anyone can help me make sense of my HRT… i am 50, menopause since 44. Currently have mirena coil and taking Estrogel. Started with 2 pumps, then GP asked me to gradually increase to 4 pumps which I did, then had a blood test and she prescribed Testogel for libido (non-existent). It’s only been 2 weeks of testosterone so i am not expecting miracles. But the GP said my blood test 2 weeks ago showed that my estrogen was still on the low side despite being on 4 pumps for 6 weeks at that point. Also my testosterone was at the higher end of the low range but she was happy to give me Testogel to try to improve libido. She said something about ‘hopefully adding testogel will now increase estrogen level’ or something like that. Anyone understands this better? I am generally feeling much better on HRT, completely controls all symptoms, even knee pain (severe arthritis) but breasts are bigger, a bit sore, and i seem to eat too much, feels hormonal rather than lack of will power. I never had trouble with my weight before menopause but i gained 2 stone and can’t shift it despite HRT. Also never had hormonal moods etc before menopause, i built muscle easily, now it’s impossible to build muscle, thats why i wanted to try testosterone. Will things improve? What are your experiences when you added testogel to standard HRT?

Many thanks xxx

Hello
I'm getting very low levels of estrogen from gel and spray
Have added testoterone to the mix but little difference TBH. Specialist has offered implant but I'm wavering as that is a very high dose of estrogen.

Hi Sazzle

Sorry to hear that. I’ve heard it can take a while to get the testosterone right, some women say 3 months to feel the difference. Have you tried estrogen patches? Some women report better absorption from patches - I hated the patches as they kept peeling off my skin and itched but many women love them. Don’t give up. Am also hearing that some women privately are being prescribed up to 10 (!!!) pumps of estrogel, I didn’t even know that was possible. I don’t know how old you are, but 4 pumps may not be high enough for you if you are quieter young xxx
