Progesterone does work on the same part of the brain but I'm not sure I understand how this means there is a contraindication between the two (progesterone and benzos). As in... wouldn't whatever progesterone withdrawal you experience would effect that part of the brain regardless of whether you're taking a benzo or not? A quick search of the Web is not coming up with any contraindications between the common benzos and progesterone, but I'm obviously no expert at all and as it's such a specific issue and anything to do with benzos can be awful, I'd say definitely one to speak to a specialist about. Good luck x

Many medication groups effect GABA receptors, I’m not sure I understand the question properly.

Miss Piggy, are you worried that stopping taking progestin/progesterone will result in the same symptoms associated with an immediate benzodiazepine withdrawal after prolonged use?

I have spoken to the pharmacist and she said that as the progesterone and diazepam go through the same enzymes. If you take one away eg. The HRT Then the diazepam would pass through quicker as not sharing. This means it would be like a benzo withdrawal.
Just trying to figure out risk and if anyone here had done it.
She said it was not measurable.
Thanks everyone for your input. I am definitely in a fuddle.

Perhaps instead of going cold turkey you could cut a piece off the patch so you can reduce more gradually.

If you search 'benzo withdrawal' you'll find some posts on it. As you're on a sequi regime you get the withdrawal every time you stop the conti patches. Have you been coping with that OK? If you have I don't think it will be any different if you just stop. It seems transdermal isn't as bad as oral progesterone for it.

Hi Miss Piggy.
When I had anxiety anything that stressed me resulted in magnified anxiety, fear and confusion all spiralling out of control. You sound anxious and you’ve said it’s stressing you out. I really feel for you.
I wouldn’t worry about what could happen as it’s not happening yet, hard to do though when you feel stuck in the middle of it.
If the evorel patch isn’t working it needs reviewing on an apt with the prescriber. The HRT may be changed , you might not be stopping HRT and may not have to withdraw. How quickly can you speak to the GP that prescribed the HRT?

Really hope you get a doc’s apt soon.

Take care.x

Thank you VictoriaV. To be honest I would prefer just to come off the patches if I could. The patches are just one of multiple things the doctor has put me on. To be honest following a lot of research I feel she has not done well by me. There is also no woman specialist doctor at the surgery so I feel it is down to me to make the decisions x
