How many pumps new oestrogel are equivalent to old oestrogel?
« on: October 19, 2021, 06:59:33 PM »

So I've finally discovered why I've had a gradual and really unpleasant return of symptoms; seemingly I'm one of those women who don't absorb the newly packaged oestrogel very well.

I have about 8 bottles and I don't want to just chuck them, so anyone any idea how many new oestrogel pumps equate an old oestrogel pump?!

Or is it completely random and dependent on how well each person absorbs? Planning on asking GP for patches but would still like to use it up - so wasteful not to...

My Meno specialist said if I noticed anything different with the oestrogel to just use more. But I'm sorry she didn't say how much more. I guess it's an individual thing. Can't hurt going up a pump and see how you go. Then maybe up again if no change after a couple of weeks?

I can't actually wait a couple weeks though, I'm on the floor! I'm barely functional, just about able to hold a conversation. Maybe I'll just dump them and get patches.

VictoryV - no confirmation no but it ain't working on me anymore after years of being fine with it. I can't hold out for official conformation.

I'm really sorry you are struggling. Whichever option you choose unfortunately might not be a quick fix as every time we change delivery methods etc it can take a little while to improve. But just thinking while you wait for doctors appointment you may as well increase your dosage of the oestrogel incase you quite quickly improve. Also, have you considered that maybe your own levels have dropped and so you need more anyway? Might not be anything to do with the gel itself maybe you just need more.  Another thought if any of your symptoms are physical eg hot flushes then they can resolve quite quickly with an increase so you will know you are on the right track and this will help you while you wait for the more unpleasant mental side effects to improve.

Hi Merlingo68, I really feel for you and hope you get contact with your Doc ASAP. Yesterday you were thinking your symptoms were caused by the testosterone and you were going to stop taking it. I think I’d do what Gnatty is saying and increase the gel until you can speak to the doc. I wouldn’t stop the Testosterone as it’s such a small amount and changing two things means you won’t know what’s causing what. I’m in the situation where I made two key changes and wish I hadn’t as it’s confused everything.

I hope it eases soon, do you have anything in the house to help you sleep tonight?

Sending hugs.

merlingo68 - exactly the same thing happened to me.  I was on Oestrogel for over 20 years and it worked brilliantly. Could  not understand why suddenly I was feeling so rotten till I checked the Oestrogel ingredients and found they had changed it from Estradiol 17b to estradiol hemihydrate.  I tried for ages to see if I could feel ok again by changing the dose but couldn't.  My Menopause consultant said she has had several ladies complain of the same thing.  I contacted Besins who assured me nothing had changed but it truly has - we are not alone in noticing it either. I was advised to report it on the Yelow card system which I did. I was swopped onto Lenzetto spray just over 3 months ago which I am also struggling with and have an appt with the Consultant on Thursday when - as she suggested on our last appt - she will probably swop me onto patches.  I really feel for you - I was so upset having to stop the Oestrogel which had done me so well for all those years. I hope so much you can find something that suits you better.  Do let us know how you get on x

Hi Ladies,
Just wondering when it changed? I’m not absorbing it very well at the moment having had no problems before and some of my symptoms have returned. This might explain it!
