Whether to change from Lenzetto to patches
« on: October 19, 2021, 08:46:12 AM »

Hi all - I have been struggling with Lenzetto for several months now and despite changing the dose several times as suggested by the consultant I feel absolutely dreadful.  The problem is it is not easy to fine tune the dose of a spray and I get bad symptoms from both too much or too little.  I have a telephone consult with the menopause specialist on Thursday who suggested last time if things did not sort out to try patches.  I have heard that Evorel patches seem to be very good although she has suggested Estradot.  Do any of you have any experience of either patch (good or bad) you could share please.  I am uber sensitive to any change in drug routines for anything so will probably need to start on a low dose.  My oestradiol blood levels were very low on my last blood test (98).  Would be so grateful to hear your experiences as am getting pretty desperate to stop feeling so unwell.  I'm definitely coming back as a man  ;D ;D ;D ;D  xx

Hey Pippa - I didn't get on well with Estradot which is why I switched to Lenzetto, but I really do think (as unhelpful as it is) from what I've observed so much of it is down to how well your body personally absorbs different products. Some people haven't got on well with Lenzetto at all, others like me love it, and vice versa with oestrogel etc.

I found that the patches gave me too much of a hit at once, and I also couldn't get on well with the practicalities of it. Having said that, I didn't give it much of a chance - I think I was only on it for about 10 days and as I was still very symptomatic with night sweats and insomnia I gave up. It's possible it might have settled after a while and worked fine. I know I've seen a few others here comment on Lenzetto not being as strong as it's advertised and if your Estrogen readings are that low (I'm not surprised you're feeling dreadful!) then perhaps the patch with a higher dose might work out better for you. The only thing is you can't fine tune it in the same way you can't with Lenzetto. I would think Oestrogel is the best product for allowing you to increase/decrease in smaller amounts.

Gilla999.... many thanks for your reply which I really appreciate.  I was on Oestrogel for well over 20 years which worked great for me but then they slightly changed the formula which made be feel very unwell hence I was changed off it however much I tried to level out on it nothing improved.  I am hoping that the patches might provide a more stable blood level throughout the 24 hours.  I used to be on 3 pumps of Oestrogel but my blood level was 98 on that.  I have not been able to have a blood test while on Lenzetto due to the shortage of vials at my GP they are only doing blood tests for conditions like cancer.  Thanks again so much for your input really appreciated xx

Hi Pippa, I stopped a trial of Lenzetto to go back to Estradot patches due to what felt like poor absorption from the spray.  I also didn't get on well with Estrogel.  Have used both Evorel &  Estradot patches & bloods show I get approx 4x as much oestradiol from Estradot as I did from Evorel Conti.  On EC I was getting less than half the expected absorption from a 50mcg patch & this was described as "disappointing" by the Meno clinic.  I was advised to steer clear of all Evorel products in case the same poor absorption recurred with their oestrogen only patches, but many women do get on very well with them, so it's a very individual matter.

What suits me may not suit you, but if you want to get your levels up gradually it is possible to cut matrix patches & gradually increase later, should a particular dose feel too much.  A good thing about Estradot is that they come in an intermediate 37.5mcg dose, instead of jumping from 25 to 50mcg.  I also find they stick very well.  To give you an idea of the kind of absorption I get from Estradot - on 25mcg: 180 pmol/L & on 37.5: 250-270.  These are only snapshots of course.

Wrensong - that is fantastically helpful thanks so for your post.  My Consultant did mention Estradot on the telephone last time I spoke to her so your information is really useful and helpful to know.  Thanks again so much xx

Hi Wrensong 👋 where do you place your Estradot patch (I’m so pleased you are absorbing the oestrogen from it). The leaflet says lower abdomen but wondering if it will absorb on buttocks/hips? X
