I started at 39. I wondered what on Earth was happening to me. I thought I was dying. Then my mum told me she she was 40ish when she started (thanks for the warning mum!

I had a bit of a battle getting HRT but I did loads and loads of research so I could be very well informed - going on HRT was wonderful for me. I was told that before 50 there isn’t really any cancer risk, especially with HRT that is released through the skin like patches and gel. (I am 41). I have a Mirena coil fitted for the progesterone which you do need to protect your uterus & cervix and then oestrogel for the oestrogen. I like the gel because I can play around with the dosage without asking my gp first.
2 months is not long enough to properly see a difference - usually you need at least 3 for your body to get used to a new dose.
But if you’ve been referred to menopause specialist that’s great because I’m afraid you gp is not up to date with the research at all.
