Will increasing HRT help ****ling skin?
« on: October 16, 2021, 09:08:47 AM »

I am currently taking Evorel 50 patches along with Desogestrel. I have been on this combination for about 7 months for perimenopause. This week I have started to get the ****ling and itching all over my body that I had before taking HRT. Does anybody know if this means I need to increase the Evorel? I am also taking two antihistamines. This is not connected to any allergy or eczema as it is the awful itching that is even in my nose and eyes. Thank you for reading.

Have any other meno symptoms returned? Probably worth a try particularly if other symptoms have returned. Not sure you can rule out allergies, if it's something airborne I think it could affect your eyes and nose?

Thank you for replying. I have breast pain and tiredness too. With the ****ling it is on my scalp and genitals too. This is what I experienced before I went on HRT. I appreciate your reply.

Could it be a lack of oestrogen which can make the body dry: inside and out?  Do U keep a mood/food/symptom diary to chart progress, it might give you an idea of the ins and outs of symptoms.  Let us know how you get on.

Thank you again for always replying to my threads.  :) I have a doctors appointment on Thursday and I am going to ask for an increase in HRT as well as treatment for vaginal atrophy. I hope he agrees as he refused to believe I am going through peri in the first place.

Tell your GP that girls can go into menopause even B4 they get a period!  It's rare but it happens.  There is 'no too young' 2 be considered, it is what it is.

Let us know how you get on?

Yes I get the awful skin crawling itchy ness. It got better with HRT but never completely disappeared. I get very itchy sore and watery eyes which is caused by dry eye - another wonderful peri symptom.
Peri can also amplify allergies making them worse. I’ve always had allergies but they are definitely worse since going into peri.

Thank you for sharing that. It helps to know im not the only one with such symptoms. I am sorry to hear the itching has not stopped. It is so uncomfortable.

No problem. It’s like creepy crawlies all over my skin. It has got significantly better with HRT. It’s worse if I’m too hot.

I have just spoken with a female doctor and was so disappointed by her. She said I am young (39) so I could be experiencing something else. She said it is likely I have a UTI despite me insisting it is vaginal atrophy. She will prescribe vagifem but she was very reluctant to increase my hrt. She asked me how I knew it could be increased and I informed her it comes in different doses. She then looked it up and was surprised I was right. She finally agreed to give me them but only for 2 months and is referring me to a menopause clinic. Sadly she kept telling me about the risk of cancer and blood clots by using hrt. I am surprised this ignorance is still around. She wants me to have a urine test as she insists I have a uti too. She was very concerned that I am only on destrogel as she said that is not enough to protect the lining of my womb and she has prescribed utrogestan. She said it is worrying I have only been on destrogel and hrt as this means the lining of my womb can be thick which can lead to cancer. Has anybody else heard of this?

From ignorant GPs.  Yep.

At least you are getting referred to a menopause clinic. U are NOT TOO YOUNG.  Write to your practice manager copy to that GP explaining that girls may have 1/2 periods then nowt and a few never mensturate at all?  How young does she want women to be ........... she needs to take a long holiday and catch up.

Also, recommend MM and 'My Menopausal Vagina' to the practice manager, written by a member of the Forum.  Every medic B4 they qualify should read it and take notes!

I would also report this Dr to Heather Currie who started this Forum and Dr Louise Newsome ;-)

Thank you for taking the time to reply to me. I really appreciate it. I wonder if a petition should be started to raise awareness of perimenopause happening at any age!

I started at 39. I wondered what on Earth was happening to me. I thought I was dying. Then my mum told me she she was 40ish when she started (thanks for the warning mum!  >:( )
I had a bit of a battle getting HRT but I did loads and loads of research so I could be very well informed - going on HRT was wonderful for me. I was told that before 50 there isn’t really any cancer risk, especially with HRT that is released through the skin like patches and gel. (I am 41). I have a Mirena coil fitted for the progesterone which you do need to protect your uterus & cervix and then oestrogel for the oestrogen. I like the gel because I can play around with the dosage without asking my gp first.
2 months is not long enough to properly see a difference - usually you need at least 3 for your body to get used to a new dose.
But if you’ve been referred to menopause specialist that’s great because I’m afraid you gp is not up to date with the research at all.

Thank you for sharing that. It is scary going through perimenopause and not knowing what is wrong. I am glad you have a combination of HRT which helps. I also thought it takes 3 months to see if HRT works. It is very frustrating how so many GPs do not have any understanding of perimenopause.
