Sweating is getting me down!
« on: October 05, 2021, 08:24:03 AM »

I am 54 and 3 years post menopause and am currently on 3 pumps of Oestrogel and 1 tablet of progesterone in the evening but I am getting terrible hot flushes again at night and in the mornings to the point that when I get out of the shower an hour later I feel like I need to get back in again! Putting make up on for work is a joke as I am sweating so much!  >:(

Also hair is getting thinner, facial hair more and more, getting slight abdominal pains (like it was when I used to be due on before a period) and lastly lots of non smelling watery discharge!

Spoke to the doctor who did blood tests to check my oestrogen and testosterone levels and said they were fine and that was it!  :-\

Tempted to go to a private menopause clinic but at £295 for a consultation it is a bit too much :(

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated x

Hi blood tests are unreliable and are not useful.

It sounds like you need more oestrogen. You can go up to 4 pumps of Oestrogel. x

I thought that about the blood tests! I struggle to get 3 pumps to dry so reluctant to go to 4 pumps.  Going to see if there is anything else I can use instead.  Its just a minefield of what to do and use and the doctors are never very helpful :(

If you are postmenopausal, blood tests can be useful to at least establish your E & T levels. Of course, with the fluctuations experienced during permenopause, they probably would not be helpful, but in your case they might give you some answers.

As Dotty said, blood tests can be unreliable. (Did he give you what the numbers were?). From everything i've seen here women seem to need differing levels of both E and P to feel well. My own Estrogen only had to drop from very high to the low end of normal and yet I was horrendously symptomatic, literally on death's door with night sweats and insomnia. Because I was in the low end of normal I struggled to be taken seriously too.

Keep on persisting - you know in yourself if you're not right. Meno specialists are so expensive but in my experience the money has been worth it for quality of life xx

Thank you for your comments and I agree that blood tests can't be relied upon because levels fluctuate throughout the month.  I've made another appointment with the doctor so hopefully something will get sorted again  :-\

Maybe there's some confusion around blood levels perhaps having more accuracy and relevance postmenopausally when there aren't the same, if any, fluctuations?
