Continuous utrogestan for progesterone intolerance?
« on: September 08, 2021, 05:32:12 AM »

My GP has just prescribed daily utrogestan along with oestrogel. The menopause consultant took me off hrt 2 years ago because the 7 days of vaginal utrogestan made me feel awful, and I was OK but now am plagued with lots of menopause symptoms. Has my GP made a mistake or is constant progesterone a better option for women who are progesterone intolerant?

Well I just got of the phone with a specialist who said that it was the fluctuations in progesterone that were affecting my mood, not the progesterone itself. It's too early for me to take progesterone continuously though.

I would go for a long cycle sequi routine instead. If you're intolerant of something taking more of it rarely ends well. Have you tried provera? There are some who are OK with this who can't tolerate utro.

No I've not tried provera. I'll have a google. I started on Evorel originally, but in month 4 the patch with progesterone hit me with acute depression so Utrogestan was next

On the advice of my specialist I take Utro 100mg vaginally daily & it’s been the best thing I ever did for mood swings especially.
We went back and forth trying different regimes and at times I felt suicidal I just could not tolerate the fluctuations. I’m 49 and late Peri & had been on HRT for 12m.
Whatever you do do it with the guidance of your Specialist or Dr

Thank you polpringle. The gp got back to me and said that, despite my known progesterone intolerance, that is the recommendation in the uk so to try it. I did ask if using it continuously was better because of less fluctuations, but he didn't choose to answer that and I suspect he doesn't know. It's encouraging to hear that you feel much better using it daily though. I'm starting with every other day for a month and then every day. I'm also using it vaginally.

I thought you weren't meant to take progesterone continuously if peri? Do you alot of spotting or whats the downside of taking every day while peri? Am hoping to take the tablet form daily when I start hrt as don't want fluctuations , but I'm still peri

I am late Peri and have been on HRT for 18m
I’ve had no spotting at all & for me the only downside has been bloating at the start but it’s settled down now
