Sweaty, I an am sure the bleed will slow down soon enough. You could try asking the GP to double your utrogestan or try the norethistone?

My specialist did say to me that utrogestan wasn’t the best at controlling bleeding.

What about the mirena coil for the progesterone? That’s meant to be good at controlling bleeding.

What other regimes have you tried?

Hi,
Unfortunately I can’t have the Mirena coil anymore, just had the second one removed in April and was told by gynae no more due to the position of my Fibroids.
I had Premarin for a couple of weeks but it was for post menopausal women and when read what was in it too 😩
Then had Evorel 25. - Oestrogen only due to still having the coil
Then Evorel 50 combined sequi
Now Evorel 75/Ultrogestan 100mg tablet daily

Thanks again x

Okay, you have fibroids?
Oestrogen stimulates fibroids and this may be why you are bleeding so heavily? X

Try not to worry.

It might be that they lower your dose of oestrogen to prevent the bleeding ( whilst controlling your symptoms at the same time) and to keep the fibroids at bay.

Definitely talk it all through with your GP though. Can fibroids be removed?

Can women with fibroids still have HRT?
The vast majority of women with fibroids can safely take HRT without any problems. The doses of oestrogen in HRT are very low so they are not usually high enough to stimulate the fibroids. Occasionally having HRT can cause fibroids to grow or bleed. Women taking HRT can still have effective treatments for their fibroids.

Women who have had Uterine Artery Embolisation can safely take HRT after their menopause as the fibroids will have shrunk by the procedure and are therefore are unable to grow or be affected by oestrogen.

Many women find taking HRT very beneficial, so having fibroids should not alter your decision regarding taking HRT.

Sweaty I found this on the Newson site

Thankyou so much NAS, I will certainly talk this through with GP. Apparently my fibroid isn’t a fuse for concern with regards to removal but the position would prevent another Mirena.
If Oestrogen aggravates fibroids then I’m wondering what the best option would be as I asked for increase ld Oestrogen due to hot flushes still continuing, albeit not as bad.

Thanks

I love how doctors tell you that a fibroid isn’t any cause for concern when heavy bleeding isn’t exactly fun either.

You could ask for tranexamic acid to take on heavy bleed days which can reduce amount and clots. Or, if they are not prepared to remove the fibroid, you could ask them to be referred for UFE to stop it growing/shrink it.

I’d also ask them to actively monitor its size. Mine was ok,ok,ok and wait for menopause until suddenly it wasn’t - and was too big to do anything other than a hysterectomy.  ::)

Thankyou, I will beat that in mind as I hadn’t  even considered that.

Update - I had call with GP who advised they will seek advise from GYnae to either
Increase Ultrogestan to 200mg
Change to Provera (progesterone)
Change HRT
Or another option to be advised

In the meantime GP has prescribed Tranexamic acid to reduce blood flow and resume some quality of life whilst remaining on HRT.
GP did mention we could come off HRT but would prefer to wait to see what Gynae say rather than keep coming on and off.

GP advised if blood loss is that heavy again to go to A&E rather than 111.

I will keep you all updated, especially for those experiencing a similar issues.

Again thanks for all the support especially the suggestion regarding Fibroid x

Hi all,

Incase anyone else is experiencing V. Heavy bleeding, the Tranexamic Acid tablets really did help, took a couple of days to take effect! I actually feel ‘human’ again 🙂 However this is not a long term solution, so now waiting for my appointment with gynae 🤞Fingers crossed it will be sooner than Feb!

Will keep you all posted with the aim to hopefully help others in the same boat (see my original post)

reading this with great interest as I have just gone through a similar experience. Have seen a consultant to day who did a scan and took a couple of biopsies, now waiting for the results. Good luck Seaty68 xx

Might also be a good idea to request a blood test to check for anemia as when I had similar experiences I got anemic. I ws given mefenamic acid and that helped to control the bleeding. It is frightening, I thought I might bleed to death but apparently the blood loss looks more than it actually is.
