Giving up on patches due to bleeding?
« on: June 26, 2021, 02:37:32 PM »

Has anyone given up on patches of any type, due to regular bleeding?
I started using evorel 75/100 then Estradot last September and have been bleeding with both. I’m sick of it now. Hysteroscopy has showed nothing untoward and  a healthy womb etc. Gynaecology have suggested I stop HRT to see if things settle. Easier said then done!

Prior to the patch, I was on gel. Hated it, hence the switch to patch.

It has been suggested that my progesterone may not be right, but I am under Chelsea and Westminster hospital and they want me to remain on nightly 100 utrogestan. I had breast cancer 12 years ago.

I’ve booked a private appointment with a specialist for a few weeks time as I want the  bleeds to stop. I’m also waiting for a gynecologist appointment to discuss a hysterectomy or at least a womb ablation.

Thanks if you got this far!  :)

Hi Nas. Lots of women have constant bleeding on continuous progesterone. Some of us switch to a sequi HRT which gives a more predictable monthly bleed I most cases. I did this before I had my hysterectomy as I had bled non -stop on the conti HRT. I'm not sure how your previous breast cancer changes things regime-wise though.

Thanks Taz,
It’s horrendous to be honest, bleeding every 18 days or so, I’m going to end up anemic 😥

The menopause nurse says I’m bleeding due to too little oestrogen, but I’m not convinced.

I’m limited regime wise and Chelsea don’t want to give me synthetic progesterone it seems.

I don’t know any longer.

Would they consider letting you trial a sequi regime for a few months?

I don’t know Taz. Before the patch, I hadn’t had a period in over two years so I’m post menopausal anyway.

That doesn't matter in terms of whether you use sequi or not. I went back to sequi when I was 57 and I believe others are still using sequi in their 60s due to bleeding problems on conti so may be worth asking.

How long has this bleed been? Are you having to change pads and tampons more often than every two hours? Try to take it easy today.

Mmmm..  I don’t like patches anymore .
Plus sequi won’t give me the strength I need I suspect  ( 50 only plus synthetic progesterone? )
Not allowed synthetic progesterone you see 😢

Pains started last Wednesday. Bleeding Thursday, Friday, Saturday and today, awful and pain off the scale.

I cannot wait for my gynecologist appointment! 😥

So it would be out of the question for you to have a Mirena with your BC history?

My Mirena has been the only thing that has controlled my HRT-related bleeding.

Well, it depends whether the private specialist allows me to have the Mirena coil. We will see.

What regime are you on Grgeliz1?

Three pumps of Oestrogel a day and Mirena coil.

Utragestan never seemed to work properly for me.

Please let us know how you get on with the specialist. I too have experienced a lot of bleeding with patches (evorel conti) MY lastt scan didn't show anything abnormal. I have ended up anemic in the past and now take a low dose of iron each day. It has been a bit better of late but had spotting again yesterday, so worried it will ramp up again. Like Tazz says it seems that this just happens to some women. I am putting up with it, as the alternative, sequi is worse because I get bad hadache / migraines and the conti has controlled these really well. The only other option is a mirena with evorel patches as mirena is suppossed to be good at controlling bleeding, but I'm not keen on having it in case it makes me feel worse.

Hi Nas,
I’m a new member and just wondered if you resolved your bleeding issue? I too am experiencing the same, painful heavy bleeding, which is also causing some embarrassment at work (flooding). I have only been expo this since starting on Evorel 75 and Utrogestan 100mg. I know there is nothing untoward as recently had hysteroscopy. I do not have a gynae appointment until next Feb so any advice you received and would be happy to share would be very much appreciated ☺️ Thanks x
