HRT stopped working
« on: August 30, 2021, 10:45:01 AM »

Hello everyone, new member here . I started my treatment on estrogel and slowly built up to taking 6 pumps of the gel and it worked for a short time and suddenly all my symptoms came back, I then switched to estrodot patches and have built up to 250 mg and again felt amazing for just a short time now again all my symptoms have returned and my blood showed estrodiol has dropped from 332.95 to 160.54 ! My appointment is next week and I wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this before and have you ever heard of anyone being on such high doses as I don’t know whether I should try and go higher again . I understand that perhaps my own level of estrogen could have dropped but I still think that the amount I’m on should have been enough. Everything I read about you ladies taking gel or patches everyone’s doses are so small in comparison.
Thanks for listening   :)

Sounds like you may not be absorbing transdermal HRT ( well patch and gel anyway).

Are you peri or post menopausal?
If peri, could severe  fluctuations be causing the sudden drop?
If post, levels do tend to flatten eventually and then you just need to get the dose right ( somehow).

Some ladies need a high dose to function. I think once you hit 6 pumps or 250 patches, it may be time to seek the advice of a MS. Maybe try lenzetto spray? It’s quick and easy to use and you may absorb that better, I don’t know. Or, look at tablet HRT?

Good luck, it’s a hard journey to navigate!

You don't seem to be absorbing it very well, for that dose your levels really should be a bit higher. You may find a different make of patch will suit you better (they have different carriers) or try lenzetto, oral or an implant. There are some women on very high doses as they don't absorb well but you may need to see a specialist.

Thank you sheila 99 and Nas for your reply’s , yes I’m having my treatment at the newson health but before my follow up next week I wanted to see if there were any ladies going through similar to my situation, what I don’t understand is that I do absorb it for a while and then I stop that’s what’s confusing to me . Thank you for the advice xx

Hi Shelly,

I am sorry I don’t have any advice but would really love to know what the outcome of your appointment is.

I don’t feel I am absorbing well (on Estradot 100 mg and 3 pumps of Estrogel) as I still feel really low. My anxiety is less however.

It’s confusing as I managed well on 4 pumps of Estrogel for 3 years so I am struggling to understand why my symptoms have returned.

Good luck with you appointment.

Take care xx

It does sound like your own hormones have dropped coupled with not absorbing very well.  I don’t absorb transdermals and been on 6 sprays then added 3mg Sandrena then added 100mg patch and still no change to symptoms.

It’s easier after peri I’m told to know if you absorb  because you won’t get your own fluctuations which make it difficult to know if it’s your own Estrogen or the HRT.

I also worried about high doses but my menopause doctor reassured me that I’m only trying to put back what I have lost and that it’s not a dangerous drug.  It is trial and error.
