HRT - Groin & Pelvic Pain
« on: August 30, 2021, 02:32:30 PM »

Hi all

I’m new to the forum and would appreciate your thoughts  :)

I’m 51 years old and I’ve had menopause systems for nearly 2 years now and struggling with my day to day life. I haven’t had a period for approximately 2 years. I have hot flushes, anxiety/panic attacks, struggle breathing, night sweats, insomnia, stomach issues, food intolerances since the start of my symptoms which seem to be getting worse, weight gain and bloating.

I’ve tried herbal remedies, supplements from Holland & Barrett. I’ve been prescribed Amitripytyline and Sertraline for a while now but it doesn’t seem to have helped.  My Gynaecologist recommended HRT patches which I was wary of but decided I needed to give it a try as I wasn’t coping well.

I’m on to the second week of the Femseven conti combined hrt patches (im waiting to get the Marina coil and oestrogen patch).

I have 2 concerns that I was hoping I could get some help with:

1. I’m getting really intense pain in both sides of my groin/pelvic area. I’m wondering if this is the hormones kicking in and if so will the pain ease soon or if this should be something I should be concerned about?

2. The patches keep coming off.

Any help and advice would be much appreciated!

Sue

Hi.  Oh! the wandering patches  ::)

:welcomemm:  Hormone replacement therapy can make a huge difference to daily life once 1 finds a regime which suits.  MayB tell us more about yourself, age, last period, which HRT has been prescribed?  I don't use HRT other than vaginal atrophy treatment.

Browse round.  Make notes.  Some find that keeping a mood/food/symptom diary of use.

Hi I sympathise with you completely. I get a lot of pelvic pain well more of a discomfort than a pain. Went to the docs 2 years ago and had a scan and only had a polyp which was removed but at that time I started with health anxiety whilst waiting for the results and I am still panicking about these pains 2 years later. Any twitch I panic about but if you are concerned mention it to your doctor. I do speak to friends who comment on pains in that area though so I think it is ‘normal’ even though not everyone suffers from them. I am so bad I daren’t even go to the doctor about anything and I’m on antidepressants!! Drive my husband mad. Good luck to you xx

Hello

I am 50 and relatively new to the forum here and HRT so not the most knowledgable, but thought I’d just let you know my experience. I started HRT just over 3 months ago, I am on gel and utrogestan. I have had all sorts of symptoms in the first 3 months, including some abdominal pains but I do now think they are settling. I am on the lowest dose of the Sandrena gel and I was unsure it would be enough as my hot flushes were thick and fast but I have not had one for 6 weeks.
What I’m trying to say is that they say to give it 3 months and in my experience I think that’s good advice, you may get pain or other sensations but your body is getting used to it. If it is really bad, speak to your GP who could change your prescription but perhaps keep a diary so you know what’s getting better and what isn’t?
Regarding the patches and sticking I have no experience however there are threads on here where people have mentioned using plasters over the top to keep them stuck. Some people seem to also have found other brand s work better for their skin.
Hope this helps!

Hi Su2kei,

I've been on oestrogel (2 pumps)l and 100g Utrogestan (daily) for 3.5 weeks and today noticed pain (a bit like ovulation initially) in my lower abdomen plus a dragging sensation in my pelvis.  It reminds me of how I used to feel prior to a period (I'm meno with no period for 12 months).   Although it's not intense just uncomfortable.

I think it's just the body settling.  I'm going to keep a track of all the different things that pop up to chat through with my meno specialist at the 3 month mark.  If anything really bothers me I've decided I will organise speaking with them before the 3 month mark.

I got pelvic pain from Evorel Sequi which has a progestogen called norethisterone.

I stuck it out for 3 months and then went onto estrogen patches with Utrogestan which I use vaginally to avoid most of the side effects.

But it's very early days for you so stick with it. It sounds like you have a back up option of the Mirena coil anyway but I understand you're impatient to start feeling better.

I think it's par for the course to try different things and Femseven works brilliantly for some women.
