Why do I feel worse on day 8-14 of cycle
« on: June 28, 2021, 07:53:21 PM »

Hi everyone, does anyone feel their symptoms in perimenopause are horrific on days 8-14 - I feel horrific suicidal depression anxiety flu symptoms chills shivers, nausea after eating anything, nightmares and unbelievable fatigue. I also notice that I have old blood coming out from my previous cycle and then it disappears. I have very high estrogen levels but why would I feel so very bad at this point. I then feel sometimes a bit better week 3  I think only on months when I produce sufficient progesterone only for it all to come crashing down again before my period. Sometimes when I have a longer cycle (30 days instead of the 25 days I have had for last 18 months) with presumably more progesterone the crash afterwards is even worse.

Can anyone relate? Or know why this would be?  What can I do? I tried  utrogestan but felt suicidal within an hour of taking it which wore off after 2 hours but I couldn’t ever dare take one again. I tried bio identical progesterone cream but after 3 days of taking it the suicidal depression got worse so I stopped. I tried a month of qlaira but bled continuously and it didn’t stop the symptoms. What else can I do or try??  I feel hopeless

Hi I’m having the same problem, I’m in the middle of a really bad time and usually my own hormones have lifted me out of it but I’m not sure it will this time.  It’s brutal for some of us.  No matter how much Estrogen I use it doesn’t change.  I’m sure though for you, you just need a higher dose.  Do you have meno symptoms outside of this time?

Hi floo36 yes I do have symptoms outside of these times my only reprieve seems to be the third week if I produce progesterone. I don’t know if I need more estrogen as I have really high estrogen off the charts - does anyone else have high estrogen like this in perimenopause? Is that why I feel so bad in the time when it would be rising in my cycle?

Hi Kernol,
sorry to hear that you are going through such a hard time  :'(
When have you last seen a doctor? Sounds like you need a review of your situation with a menopause expert.

Are you currently on HRT, or your high oestrogen levels are endogenous? For some high oestrogen causes problems, so it might be your case too. Or like you suspect yourself, it can be the balance between oestrogen and progesterone.

Probably you also need some medication for the anxiety to get into a more stable place. Are you currently taking anything?

Hang in there, its horrible but you're not alone!! xx

Yes, I have had many Estrogen bloods taken over recent months and they ranged from 400 to over 5000 pmol on the same dose of HRT and still felt the same. We can have wild fluctuations in peri which I am having and feeling.  I could do another load and they all might come back sky high but that doesn’t mean that is what my levels are but more that they are fluctuations.

Can you see a menopause specialist?
