Restless nights and early rising
« on: June 19, 2021, 04:39:07 AM »

Hi I am currently on 4 pumps oestradiol and 100mg Utrogestron nightly. I have tried orally and vaginally ! In the last few days my sleep has been extremely restless and I am again waking around 4am unable to drop off, also waking with heart palpitations! These are a few of my symptoms I had when I started peri! Any ideas what I can try? I have a appt with Newson clinic but not til September!!

R U on too many pumps?  Could you alternate the dose to C if it helps taking less occasionally?

It's also been very hot and muggy which may impact on sleep.

I'm no expert but I know progesterone calms the system down.

Might it be that as progesterone opposes oestrogen, that the high dose of oestrogen could be the cause of your early waking?

Might it be that the P needs increasing?

These are just my questions, I am no expert.

I have no idea which way to turn if I’m honest ! Some days I feel like too much estrogen and some days too little! Very anxious day today and absolutely exhausted. Hate changing my refine but feel I need to try something! I tried 200mg Utrogestron a few months back and that completely wiped me out during the day and hyper during the night??

I feel your pain and am where you are. Could it be too much E as Dandelion suggested making you feel jittery, palpitations etc? x sending hugs - we all know what it’s like to have little sleep and anxiety - truly awfully-  trust your body, your body knows how to make up for lost sleep. I know I feel anxious at the very thought of changing my regime which isn’t great but better than where I have been x

Yes I keep a diary but I honestly cannot see a pattern anywhere!
Thinking seriously of reducing back to 3 pumps and see what happens ! What’s the worst that can happen? I’m working this weekend so at least I will be busy!

What were you like at 3 pumps? You could always reduce to 3.5 pumps to start with. x

I'm not surprised the prog wiped you out, it's a kind of sedative, and I assume the oestrogen is a kind of excitatory hormone but not sure.
If I am right and oestrogen is an excitatory hormone, maybe consult your GP with a view to reducing it. Bleeding was slowly getting better but I am on a heavy "period" and newly diagnosed with fibroids.

I used to need 100mcg oestrogen but flushes reduced over the years, and I got irregular bleeds, so O was reduced twice and now on 50mcg.

I only get night sweats now, fan in bed, sometimes in winter no fan, changed from gel to patch for convenience and now I am finding myself anxious which is making me wonder if I should reduce the patch, as I have dreaded getting out of bed on a morning, only two months ago I was up at 7-8 and doing much better (still bleeding off and on, but GP fully informed.)

Yeah changing regime can be nerve wracking. Due to bleeds before fibroids diagnosed, I reduced twice, and can't remember feeling anything more than night sweats which are bearable. I am thinking of reducing from 50 to 25, not sure how Gynaecologist will feel about it, but I can't stand this "dreading getting out of bed" feeling, it's interfering with socialising and doing stuff, I had to cancel meeting friends today :( not to mention the increase in bleeds which were improving.
Anyway just to say my last two decreases in oestrogen went without any problems except for minor night sweats and no day flushes.

Nothing might happen, when I reduced from 100mcg to 75mcg flushes didnt come back, I just started night sweats but I did reduce in summer.

Thank you for your replies it always feels better coming on here! I’m going to use one pump tonight and see how it goes, palpitations and anxiety surely means too much estrogen 🙈 will keep you posted

Please do, let us know, I am considering halving my oestrogen patch or changing back to gel with one pump.

I get it like a punch in the stomach each mornings what a way to greet the new day :(
I "think" it's my oestrogen but not sure. I also cannot nap as naps make me feel anxious on waking.
