Food shortages so Lorry drivers required

60,000 - drivers required apparently.  Some lack of them is due to Brexit as many Europeans went back to mainland Europe.

Will this mean that our products will take longer to reach the stores giving the companies an opportunity of rising prices?

I really admire those that dare drive those huge vehicles  :o.  Why has the transport industry left it this long B4 raising an alert?  It takes months to train new drivers !

Kleenex man-size tissues and other manufacturers are missing from shelves  :-\

Any1 else noticing that they are unable to buy their usual?

If the government of the day had got their act together with paper work for foreign drivers, we wouldn't be so short!

I know a HGV driver who works in a factory, when he enquired about going back to his driving job it was for poor pay so he didn’t bother.  The shortage of drivers in throughout europe, if they paid better they’d recruit more drivers  ::)

That's interesting.  I know several Eastern European long-distance drivers took the chance to stay closer to home, they had children and wives to spend time with.  C-19 made them review their needs.

This is another problem of the cheap labour we've got used to. HGV drivers used to be on a decent wage, now it's barely above the minimum wage. Might as well sit on your backside in a call centre...

More or Less on Radio 4 at 9 this morning is looking at the truth of the figures behind the shortage of lorry drivers and what they actually mean. I love this programme - it really shows that not all we read is true!
