Oestrogen blood test reading - help please?
« on: June 26, 2021, 01:09:36 PM »

Hi, I paid to have a private menopause health check blood test done by Forth as shown on the MyGp app.

The results came back yesterday with a Drs comment to say it would appear that I am on gel and testosterone at my post meno age of 64. No other comments other than the results.

Oestradiol is showing high at 3966pmol/L - normal range is 1-100.(?)

Testosterone is high at 520nmol/L -normal range is 0.1-1.42.(?)

Cortisol is high at 579nmol/L - normal range is 166-507.

Ferratin high at 180ug/L - normal is 13-150

Magnesium high at 1.04mmol/L - normal is 0.66-0.99.

FSH, LH, Thyroid and Vit D were all within normal range. Cholesterol high at 6.2 (total)

If anyone please has a clue what the oestrogen level indicates please let me know? I have sent it off to my Gp but have no doubt they won't do anything about it...

Thanks

I’m no expert but your oestrogen reading looks high? What HRT regime are you on? More importantly than the readings, how do you feel? Are you now symptom free? If not, you may have too much or too little oestrogen in your body.

I don’t think normal oestrogen range is between 1 and 100 somehow. 1 is nothing. Mine is undetectable at the moment and I feel horrendous!

Results are subjective. There is no ‘normal range’ I don’t think. More how you feel.

Hi Nas, I'm on Estradot 50 and Utrogestan 100mg orally daily, a rather standard dose I believe?

On this regime my hot flushes have completely gone but whenever I try to stop HRT they just come right back. Flushes were my nightmare for 8 years before I decided to go on HRT at age 63. Meno clinic Dr said I was one probably one of the unlucky ones who would always have them!

Can't comment on my normal health just now, as am having an op in 2 weeks to remove some cancer in my bowel, so everything is quite scary and not feeling myself, anxiety through the roof etc.

Have stopped the testosterone for now anyway to see how I go with that. The actual readings for that and Oestradiol don't equate to the normal range figures?...I don't get it!!

Thanks for replying. x

If it was a finger **** test that would explain the high reading as they are contaminated by estrogen that gets on the skin.

I would take the readings to  GP and explain your concerns.

Hi, yes it was a finger **** test but had to fill a tube of blood which wasn't easy! I have sent results to my Gp but not holding my breath for their input!

Just wondered how it equated to other peoples levels who are on the same regime as me please?

Thanks

I think a GP or menopause specialist would be best placed to interpret your results. For the standard dose E  you are on, the reading does appear to be high. For example, my E Is zero right now. The nurse specialist dealing with my HRT said levels 250-600 are what she would expect to see in a post menopausal woman of my age ( 50) but we are all different aren’t we?

Do you experience any symptoms the 50 dose?

I think it's so far out it has to be contaminated. You're only on medium dose oestrogen but even on high dose this is off the scale.

Do you take biotin or a multivitamin that contains biotin? It can affect assays and it’s advised to not take any for a few days/ a week before blood work.

If it was a finger **** test it will not be accurate if you have touched any estrogen products

I did a Estrogen finger **** test and it was 11000 something. Dr Newson did one and that was 7000 something on one of her videos so they are not reliable unless as Medichecks have said if you can wear gloves for a month to apply Estrogen products but even then it’s not guaranteed.

I'm sorry to hear of your bowel cancer diagnosis Julia and hope all goes well with your treatment.

I believe that certain tumours can affect blood results so this probably needs to be taken into account when trying to interpret your high reading.
