Bladder issues resolved
« on: May 11, 2021, 12:55:16 AM »

Hello ladies, I am hoping for some replies from anyone whose bladder issues have been resolved over time and what regime helped with this? I have had VA bladder issues for 4 years and symptoms are not getting better! Seeing my menopause specialist tomorrow and would like to maybe change some stuff and try new things!?
I am 61 years no period since 50, currently on HRT pills, vagifem 3x week and estrogen cream nightly for vulva burning. Have tried many kinds of moisturizer but with no relief.
Any help would be greatly appreciated 💜
I am in Canada so we are a bit behind I think as doctors will only prescribe 3x week maximum for vagifem!
Thanks and God Bless

Hi  Pookie1959
More Vagifem would help but if you're not allowed then use the estrogen cream internally as well on the days you dont use Vagifem. Im on 5  Vagifem per week and do this on the two other days as well as using the cream externally and it works well.

Morning!  MayB C if there are medical guidelines that would over rule your health provider?  We have NICE here ........ which give guidance on all medications.

:welcomemm:  a lack of oestrogen is the main cause of VA and bladder issues.  When my bladder irritates I take over the counter pain relief to ease the spincter reaction.

Do you have access to 'yes' and/or 'sylc' products in Canada?  You may be able to order on line.  Have a lookC at their websites, some ladies find they do help.  I use 'ovestin' regularly internally, as well as KYJelly or Savlon for the itchy labia.  Let us know how yo get on.

Morning! Thanks so much.....going in one hour to see doc!
I do sometimes use the cream on nights when no vagifem but it feels like too much, maybe i am using too much in the applicator?
I do take pain meds ( some narcotics) at night to help me sleep would love to stop them and only use tylenol and advil.....
I think my body is needing more estrogen going to ask for a different HRT, the Estring is the only one on the canadian website that states help with bladder!? Maybe the gel absorbs better who knows?
Will keep you posted and thanks again

Pookey, I live in Canada and my GP is quite happy to prescribe Vagifem daily.  I would find another GP.  There are zero regulations with the use of Vagifem in Canada as we pay for prescriptions so the government couldn't care less.  I have  an NP who also is ok with using vagifem as much as needed to feel comfortable.

If you are using narcotics then they may over-ride any benefits from VA treatment.  As suggested, ? change ? your provider?

:thankyou:  whatsupwiththis - we know our bodies the best  ;)

Thanks for that info, he has now increased to every other day and the external cream nightly.  Will give it a month and see how that goes and if no better will talk to my GP!

CLKD. Do narcotics interfere with the estrogen absorption? I have never thought about that ...eek!

Also for both of you are you now at a point where you have no bladder issues most of the time?

You guys are truly awesome

It takes time Pookie for vagifem to work but as you have been using it regularly, upping the usage will definately make a difference.  Hang in there.  You'll get there tho we do get flare ups occassionally which seems to be quite common.  Good luck and let us know how you're doing.  These ladies are a wealth of info. and if it wasn't for many of them, I would still be luving in the dark ages.

I am a lot better than 5 years ago: my symptoms were repeated urine infection-type feelings; my GP diagnosed by symptoms that I have VA and prescribed treatment.  I get warnings when my vagina needs more 'ovestin' .

You will need to ask your medical provider about narcotics interacting with other meds. Pookie1959 - they are OK for emergency use or as anaesthesia by a professional care giver, otherwise ..........
