Delivery methods for oestrogen
« on: May 08, 2021, 11:14:11 AM »

Hi,

Im interested to know from anyone that has swapped from one to another, gel/patch/spray. What made you try swapping, if it was absorption how did you know you weren't absorbing as far as symptoms and how quickly did you notice the difference once swapping? and anything else you might find helpful. :)

Im thinking of trying the other methods (im on a patch) to see if I feel different.

Thanks kelly

Hi I previously used patches and swapped to gel when there were problems getting patches (remember the shortage in 2020?).  I found no difference as to how well they worked for me.  None at all.  The gel had to be applied daily and therefore not as convenient as the patches which I used to apply twice a week (if I remember rightly).

I went from gel to patch as I absorbed the gel ‘unevenly’ and the patch gave me more consistency.
I’ve just gone from patches to spray, but my level isn’t high enough or consistent enough. Waiting for a review to discuss using patches AND spray  ::)

I went from evorel patch to gel because I developed an allergic reaction to it. Didn't notice a difference in oestrogen levels. If you think you don't absorb well transdermally you could try oral though of course it's slightly riskier. There's an oestrogen implant too if you're really stuck.

Thankyou everyone for the replies. I read about the implant yes maybe my gp could help. The specialist thinks my levels are good for the amount I’m on so doesn’t think I’m not absorbing or doesn’t want to increase the patch. I’m in 100 estradot with levels of 210 estrogen. I  know I’ve no ovaries but I thought my levels would be much higher. I’m thinking of the spray too as a top up. I can’t imagine having a few patches on 😂. X

It is important to have a Specialist you feel confident in.
My level was 205 using 200 mcg Estradot patches and I felt rough.
The Specialist GP I spoke with suggested trying Lenzetto Spray instead.
I’ve been using 4 sprays of Lenzetto and my latest level was 152!
I’m now waiting for a review with the GP - She did say patches and spray is an option. She also said adding in Testosterone can also help.

Whilst I wait for her review I have stuck my patches back on and started using the spray too, so I can tell her how I’ve got on.
I’ve previously been told to aim for levels around 300 when on HRT - they also said symptom control is the most important thing though.

It’s a nightmare isn’t it  ;D

Hi salad!
Yep total nightmare 😩😂. I think I felt confident in the lady at louise newson but struggled to pay the amounts they wanted, so wasn’t a realistic option.
Can I ask have you ovaries? So your getting simiLr levels with estradot. I was hoping lenzetto would be a game changer 😂.
I think I will ask my gp for bloods to get a recent level then speak to her about my symptoms. She’s had the LN training so may be more included to prescribe higher doses(she won’t do the testosterone as said she’s not allowed). The nhs specialist really is against high doses. Let me know how you get on!

I had a Total Abdominal Hysterectomy in 2011, but kept my ovaries  :)

The GP has qualified as a Menopause Specialist, she also practices privately in a clinic. She is able to prescribe the higher doses and it was her that suggested patches and spray. She is also very easy to talk to, her telephone consultations are not at all rushed and she contacted me with my latest blood result!  It’s like I’ve struck gold  ;D

Let’s see how I get on *crosses fingers
