Can I cut .25 Estraderm?
« on: April 25, 2021, 05:37:02 PM »

So, for the last three months or so I have had the Mirena coil and 0.25 Estraderm, and I was starting to feel almost normal again.

The problem is, during the day when I need to concentrate it’s fine, but I haven’t really slept very well.

I think 0.25 is too high but I don’t want to take nothing. Does anyone else recommend cutting to a dose of about 0.20?  :-\

I'm on Estraderm Mx 75, its fine to cut them. I cut a bit off mine with sharp scissors.

Mx 25 patches is a very low dose, your lack of sleep might be due to the dose being too low. The recommended dose is 50. It might be worth getting your levels checked, I've used medichecks before for estrogen levels, it's a home test.

Thanks Lillith

I sleep ok, but I wake up after about 6 hours. I used to sleep for about 9 hours (pre-HRT) so I’m not sure if it’s just something I have to put up with.

The pros are great but the cons are a pain!   ???

I think it would be ok to cut the patch. I was given 25 Estradot a while back and gynae told me to cut that in half to start with to see how I get on so must be ok. Sounds like you’ve had improvements on the 25 and you slept well before so maybe 15 or 20ish would suit. Worth a try! X

My insomnia was caused by low oestrogen and took 3 months on HRT to improve much. Have all your other symptoms gone? Yes, you can cut a piece off but it could be due to oestrogen deficiency as you're already on a low dose. Is it possible the mirena is the problem or did you have before your symptoms? I still don't sleep for as long as I used to but I think age can mean we sleep less well too.

Thank you for your replies. I’m going to cut it down to about .20 tomorrow and see how I get on  :-\

So, I cut it down to about 0.20 and started to feel better, less bloating, didn’t have that constantly ‘wired’ feeling upon wakening.

So I decided to stop taking the Estraderm all together.

Although it’s only been a few days I’m starting to feel better, less bloating etc.. the only symptom seems to be a headache, which is probably just normal withdrawal type headache.

I’ve booked an appointment with a meno specialist to see whether I actually need to carry on taking HRT?

My main concern is that I’ve just got into a new relationship (which I’m very excited about!) but I’m worried about vaginal dryness.

Any thoughts on whether I should continue on HRT or just use a vaginal moisturiser? How do you know when you no longer need HRT?

It’s such a minefield!  :-\
