advice on oestrogen cream
« on: May 02, 2021, 02:42:56 PM »

Hi, I've finally decided I can no longer put up with my menopause symptoms (hot flushes, vaginal dryness and urinary incontinence) and have contacted my Dr to see what can be done, she has suggested a vaginal oestrogen cream or pessary and also recommended this website for useful info and advice.
I was just wondering if others have found this kind of treatment useful?
Many thanks

Topical estrogen doesn't do anything for hot flushes though, you need full HRT for that.

You don't need an exam to be prescribed 'vagifem' or 'ovestin' medication which eases vaginal atrophy.  We have threads on that, and 'bladder issues' which you might find useful.

My GP went on symptoms, following repeated symptoms of urine 'infections'.  For weeks the samples were dipped in the surgery and ABs prescribed, then a sample was sent to a Lab and came back with no growth.  Also with many surgeries being closed, we shouldn't have to wait for something that will ease symptoms.

Minusminnie, you really do not need to be examined to have Ovestin and Vagifem prescribed. Symptoms of VA are generally enough unless you have other concerns.

I get repeat prescription for ovestin and no examination.  Just a telephone consultation every year.  Suits me.   Systemic hrt when I was on it required checks like blood pressure etc.
