Its tiring the distance between the fact that we all are busy working women in a modern age facing a problem that hasnt caught up in evolution as women rarely die in thier 50s now plus we work til 67.   The medical fraternity doesnt seem to have caught up with these facts either.

You really shouldn't have to go private. I'm so lucky I have an amazing GP who got my testosterone levels checked before prescribing testosterone, they were unreadable - I had a total hysterectomy in 2016 - she was annoyed on my part as I could only have it prescribed by a consultant! Which took time. Good luck.

My testosterone which is prescribed by an NHS meno clinic and on repeat (although it would only be about once a year cos of the little you have to use) through my GP, improved my libido but took about 5 months to become really noticeable in terms of wanting sex but about 2 months in the response aspect.  It also helped with my energy levels and also the quickest response which I wasn't expecting was it made my brain a little sharper which happened in the first 3 weeks.

I would say that testosterone can be a slow burn well it has for me.  There is no reason why you should have to go private.  In the last 6 months prescribing testosterone has been promoted to GP's through NICE and is not becoming more common place although some are GPs are so behind the times on their HRT info anyway, they don't know about any of it.  A lot of them only prefer to do it on consultant referral cos they are not confident on what they are doing.

Why not email Dr Currie and explain and see if she can get a letter to your GP (it's a service through this site) the charge to ask her questions and get a reply is £30 now I think (much less than a private consultant).  If the GP has a letter from a Consultant they really cant argue much!  Worth a shot Anjia!

Hi,

I am with a NHS meno clinic and asked about testosterone, she looked flustered and said lets disscuss it at your next appointment in 6 months! She mentioned it being off license and seemed miffed that I had some knowledge.

I'm on Tostran. I had a cardiologist ask me the other day what the hell are you doing on that? I said I was given it for mood? I've recently realised that my mood wasn't anything to do with lack of testosterone but situational depression due to a repeated work problem in the same place. I'm being treated for depression with CBT therapy.

Thanks Birdy  :) - not everyone is so nice - I've been called "wordy and pedantic" in the past, although not on here mind.  ;D - it's a double edged sword!  Listening and explaining stuff is something I have to do everyday all day in my job...so...

Consultant's Pepperminty??? - honestly you wonder sometimes...they are supposed to be the experts.  I reckon most of us could pass exams in meno from just being on the forum!  Still where would they be without us educating them huh!  :-X  we are saving NHS training a fortune...its going to take her 6 months to look it up???

Are you still using your Tostran Loo53 - if you have stopped have you noticed a difference? or are you still using it and having the CBT as well?

I don’t visit here often but yes I’ve stopped using tostran and any other hormones and I am more at peace with myself these days. I don’t have a partner and don’t intend taking anyone on board because I don’t want that kind of pressure in my life. I don’t know if it’s supposed to be this way but apart from the vulval itching that’s about it. I’m 16 years post menopause.
