Do you need breaks from Ovestin?

Hi
Been to meno clinic today and been advised that Ovestin is not for longer use than one course(tube?). I've used it since November 20 for VA with good results. Dr suggested using a vaginally moisturiser.
Any ideas anyone?

Meno clinic - shouldn't be calling themselves that!  I've been using 'ovestin' for over 5 years and I have a history of breast disease.  Moisturiser won't replace the lock of oestrogen which is the main cause of dryness: inside and out; skin, scalp, deep in the ears, eyes, vagina ........ I would have expected that response from a Gynaecologist but not a specialist menopause clinic.

If you stop treatment symptoms will return. VA is for life, and so is treatment. It even says this in the NICE guidelines. Are they expecting you to start growing your own oestrogen again?

MayB tell us more about this 'clinic'?  Were you referred by your GP for example, if so they need educating too.

How do U feel overall?

The clinic is at the hospital. Referred last year after some unexpected bleeding. Thanks for your input all, I've had a look at the Nice guidelines and couldn't see a reason. Will carry on with my trusty tube and speak to my GP as soon as I can.

I would print off the NICE guidelines and send to this particular 'clinic'.  It's a HUGE worry that they don't understand how VA affects women or that appropriate treatment is for Life  :-\.

 What was the cause of the bleeding? That's a different topic from breaking from treatment.

'ovestin' or 'vagifem' are life long treatments for a condition which if it gets out of control, can cause continual on-going problems  :'(
