Night sweats
« on: March 11, 2021, 03:08:47 PM »

Hi ladies,

I am on 5 pumps oestrogen gel and 200mg utro from days 14 - 28. I'm 52 and as far as I know, still in peri .

The vast majority of my symptoms have improved since I've been on this regime but I'm still getting awful night sweats which suggests low oestrogen...?

Spoke to my gynae today who wants me to cut back to 4 pumps as he says that's the max dose and anything more than that won't work. Is that right?? He's referred me back to GP for referral to a Menopause Clinic.

Tried to get a blood test to check my oestrogen levels but GP doesn't offer it. Tried to get Estradot prescribed alongside my utro to see if that helped but was told GP couldn't prescribe it...

So now I'll have to wait for another referral....

Any suggestions re the gel or what to try?

Thanks x

Woah! It sounds like your GP needs to refer you to a Menopause Clinic as soon as you can!

I went from using 4-6 pumps of Oestrogel daily, with breakthrough symptoms, to two 100 mcg Estradot patches.
GP’s ordinarily can not prescribe more than the recommended dose, but a Menopause Specialist can and will. They also follow it up with directions for your GP to carry on prescribing it and they can.

The Specialist I saw thought I’d get a more consistent dose by using patches instead of gel.
I have happily used them until the last 6-9 months where I struggled to get my level high enough to feel well.
I have been lucky enough to speak to a Menopause Qualified GP at my doctors’ surgery and have just swapped to Lenzetto spray.

So far so good  :)

If you're able to you could get a private test. It'll tell you if your not absorbing well or if you need high levels to feel well. For most people flushes are the first things to go so it's a little odd that your other symptoms have improved but not this. Is it possible there's another cause? Some viruses can give you night sweats.

Thanks both.

Night sweats were my first peri symptom and now seem to be my last...!  Don't think I have a virus unless it's lasted the last couple of years...  Gynae suggested clonidine to help reduce the sweats as a non-hormonal treatment. Anyone tried that?
