Advice on Utrogestan symptoms needed.
« on: March 01, 2021, 01:07:07 PM »

Hi All

I'm nearly 5 weeks into my regime of Estrogel (started with 2 pumps but have increased in the last week to 3 pumps per day) and Vaginal Utrogestan 100mg every other night (Louise Newson's recommendation on her videos)

i have read a lot of posts on here about Utrogestan. Some say that it takes a few weeks to settle down, and others say that the irritability and tiredness just get worse the longer you're on it.

I was awake at 3am this morning feeling extremely anxious and having a mad dream in which I couldn't really react. I feel like it was a chemical induced dream - I keep having them. I eventually dropped off again at around 6am ish and woke up at 7.30. It's not so bad if I'm working from home, but otherwise I'm in bed for about 9-10 hours a night and sleeping probably for 6-7 of them a not very restful sleep. It's driving me mad.

Please can anyone tell me if things get better or should I look to do something else?
Should I up my Estrogel to 4 pumps or is the Estrogel causing the anxiety and wakefulness?
I do feel like I have a hangover and no brain left after taking the Utrogestan. I can't figure out what is causing me the problem.
I can't have the Mirena coil - had it in my late 30s and it punctured my uterus - I'm not going there again.

ps I'm 51, 2.5 years post meno.

Yours angrily and irritatedly
Candice.

All advice and experiences gratefully received.

Thankyou :)

Hi Candicet

No way could I tolerate utrogestan every other day. I had it suggested to me by my meno specialist and tried for a short while but couldn’t do it, mainly because of the withdrawal effects on the day off.

The dreams you describe are a common symptom (I find) when I’m on the utro phase. It is only bearable because I take it for the minimum time allowed (under supervision).

I think problems with utrogestan are extremely common, and those that can tolerate it are the lucky ones x

Hiya Perinowpost.

I have read on here about Dr Studd's recommendations of 7 days a month - is that what you're doing?
Is that only for peri as opposed to post?

I don't feel so bad today, but that is how it usually goes. The day I take it I don't feel it, and I can cope the next day, but it's the 3rd day along that mullers me by which time I am taking it again and I think the cycle begins again. I'm on a continuous dose. It just feels grubby to me.

I would happily reduce the dose if it were considered safe.

Hi there

Yes that’s the regime I use (vaginally), although I’ve never paid to see Professor Studd. I saw someone on the nhs with a special interest in menopause. I was exactly the same as you, it incapacitated me on the third day. I was working at that point and just couldn’t function so it was untenable.

I am post meno (56), and follow this regime with my specialists backing. I have annual scans to check uterus lining and it is working fine. I’ve tried every other progesterone available and struggled with them all. This the least of of all evils (for me), and the only option I can tolerate if I want to stay on hrt (which I do as my body loves oestrogen and it does such a lot for me).

Hope this helps and wishing you well x

yes it does help very much.

I'm seeing a specialist on the NHS soon ish - in the next couple of months I think, so I will put this to them.
I don't think I'm going to find a progesterone I can tolerate so lowering the dose if it's safe, seems the way to go.
Otherwise I'm living in a Stephen King film and I don't want to spend my menopausal years like that.

Thankyou very much xx
