Hot Flushes
« on: February 22, 2021, 01:45:19 PM »

Hello,

Can hot flushes start in postmeno even if you've hardly had any in peri and meno?

Thanks

I do wonder.  Sometimes I get suddenly hot and/or cold and wonder even though my last period was over 20 years ago  ::). Ovaries can still kick in apparently.

Yes as oestrogen levels continue to drop. The hot flush is caused by your body trying to force the ovaries to release an egg. Symptoms can become troublesome during post meno. Not for everyone though.

So it's really a matter of wait and see.  I hope things won"t get worse for me though.

As you say it's just a case of waiting to see how you get on. Women who don't have any problems with meno very rarely bother to look up any information or join a forum such as this one so it can give a slightly skewed impression.

How many hot flushes are you experiencing at the moment?

It doesn't happen very often apart from feeling warm during the night from time to time.  What I tend to get is chilling sensations instead during the day.  This might change to horrible hot flushes later on.

Try not to look too far ahead and just take a day at a time knowing that if things get too unbearable, although you may not be sure that you want to try it, HRT is an available option
