menopause spcialists
« on: February 02, 2021, 03:08:33 PM »

Does anyone know of a good meno specialist  ? my daughter is trying to get a blood test to see what her hormone levels are, her Dr wont do it,and she has booked to have a blood test privately, which she can then see a specialist meno Dr about, she has a slight thyroid problem so was put on meds for that, but she is getting hot flushes back now
Also losing a lot of hair, she has only had this problem since being given HRT but it may be her levels are wrong, hair has got worse since having the thyroid meds which her Dr told her should improve it,
We are in North Yorkshire, she is willing to go privately

Hi Jaycee.  Sorry to hear of your daughter's situation.  Can't advise on a Meno Specialist in your area but do your daughter's hormone tests include thyroid function?  I would want to know my thyroid levels were right in her situation, in case her thyroid meds needs tweaking.  If she is on the wrong dose this could account for her flushing & worsened hair loss.

I think Newson Health (Stratford-on-Avon/Knutsford) are doing teleconsults, but waiting list was 3-4 months last time I saw a newsletter.  Though your daughter could maybe ask for a cancellation if she doesn't want to wait indefinitely for COVID restrictions to lift to see someone face to face locally & can manage a short notice call.  Just a thought.  Costs/details are published on their comprehensive website.

Hi Wrensong, thank you for your reply. her thyroid meds have been tweaked, but she decided to stop them and within 2 days her hairfall has lessened, coincidence maybe,? but her Dr put her on them to see if it would help her hair, but made it worse,
She has paid for a private blood test and spoken to a meno specialist now, so will see what happens when the blood test results come back, she should have gone yesterday but had to cancel due to weather conditions
They are going to test hormones, thyroid again and vitamin D and others she didn't understnd
Will just see what comes back

Glad your daughter has found a specialist. For anyone else who needs to find one The British Menopause Society has a find a specialist search where you can input your postcode or town and search for NHS or Private,I've tried it and it was quite good, although a lot of services may be on pause at the moment due to Covid

Hi jaycee, glad to know your daughter has managed to speak to a menopause specialist.  Good that thyroid was among the tests.  Fingers crossed something helpful comes out of it & the hair loss stops.

Great tip Sia, thank you.

Hi,

Just an FYI for anyone looking - Newson Health do tele consultations. They are very well set up and as effective as face to face. There is a waiting list, but they do get cancellations.

Prof Studd clinic has appointments via zoom. No real waiting list. Their docs aren’t quite so tech savvy so the zoom experience isn’t as useful for your first time.

London Hormone Clinic also do zoom consultations. I haven’t had mine yet, so can’t comment on that side of it. They have appointments within around 3 weeks.
