Mirena and 2 pumps of Oestrogel
« on: January 24, 2021, 04:33:35 PM »

I really hope I can get some help!

I am on week 4 of the 2 pumps applied to the thigh.  My estrogen levels are pretty low.  When do I know if the Oestrogel or even Mirena isn’t going to work for me? Do I push for 6 weeks or suffer for 12?  I have tried Evorel conti and Evorel Sequi and nothing seems to work 😥. Today has been soooo hard and part of me is saying I should give up because I don’t know what is causing me these symptoms anymore.  I don’t know what else to do!

Please help me

Make sure you aren't using cream based shower gels- they have moisturizers in so that might be hindering your absorption by putting a barrier on the skin  . I use a gel based shower gel or soap. Also dont use body creams /oils in that area I found I'm absorbing my gel much better.
Have you tried your upper arm and shoulder too?

On an HRT time scale, 4 weeks is not very long at all. A mirena coil can take several months to settle down and you might find you will need more than just two pumps of oestrogel. You might want to give it another couple of weeks and then if no improvement try increasing your gel, but just increase maybe by half a pump and then another half. Some women find they need 4 occasionally more pumps of oestrogel. Has anything improved for you?

Thanks for this - there is noticeable improvement with my insomnia but muscle ache, headache and nausea still there.  No change!

Hi, I’ve had a mirena for 18 years ,long before meno kicked in. They take a few months for your body to settle down, you may get spotting/very light or irregular bleeding  in first few months, I’ve never noticed any other side effects with Mirena. I’m using patches and although I felt some improvement in a couple of weeks the doctor said some symptoms will take 3 months to go. However there is always the possibility that you need a higher dose than you’re getting or you’re not absorbing the product. I would speak to your doctor if you’re not sure. I’ve not used the gel so I can’t comment on that. I’ve had to increase my dosage of patches as time went on as I guess oestrogen levels in body drop. My GP tried his best but a referral to a menopause specialist was much more helpful and I wish I’d asked for that sooner. Good luck
