Dry vagina - recommendations please
« on: January 24, 2021, 08:01:18 AM »

Hi all,

A year off HRT and post meno. Mostly all fine, but I do have a dry vagina. Day to day it's ok but sex isn't enjoyable. Not painful but dry, despite using lubricant.

Will topical estrogen help with this? Is there anything else I can take daily to diminish overall dryness? Or is it here to stay?

TIA

Yes, topical oestrogen is definitely what you need. You should be able to get this via a telephone appointment with your GP. VA is chronic, needs treatment for life, and will get worse if left. The lack of oestrogen can also lead to urinary issues as the whole genitourinary system needs it. The proper name for VA is Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause.

A decent vaginal moisturiser such as one of the Yes products is also valuable in alleviating immediate symptoms.

Do ring your GP in the morning.  You don't need an examaniation or blood tests  ;)

Do people think topical estrogen in form of cream or supps is best?

Thanks for the advice. I'll get on it.

What is 'supps' ?  :-\

If you feel the need to pee, then take pain relief, I find Nurfon really helpful in stopping those sensations.

Either cream or pessaries, some prefer one, some the other. Many use both, Vagifem pessaries for inside plus Ovestin cream for the outside. Cream can be applied directly on the labia as well as using it internally.

I've been using Vagifem pessaries for around a month with fairly good results.
