Digestive issues-Fed up!!!!
« on: January 18, 2021, 09:06:01 AM »

Hello

I am 48 years old and have been having issues with bloating for over a year, the GP sent me for scan and a cyst was found, this has all been checked out however the bloating has continued.

Back in the Summer, I was having trouble having a bowel movement and this made my piles flare up so I increased the fibre, probably too much, and then began to experience extreme cramping, especially at night which then resulted in me running to the toilet for a poo first thing in the morning. The food is transitting through ok but it is the cramping and pain and bloating that is the issue.

If I go on a lower fibre diet this alleviates the bloating and cramping but then makes it difficult to go to the loo.

What to do? I am swinging between loose bowels movements and cramping pain in the night (and night only) to feeling ok but finding it difficult to go to the loo.

I have self-referred to the continence service, as they may offer some advice on the fluctuating bowel movements and if not  I am hopeful they may refer on the women's physio and I am waiting for an appointment with a consultant (colorectal) due to the piles.

I think it is all related and to be honest and fed up with it all.

I have booked at the beginning of Feb to see a meno specialist privately but don't really fancy HRT as I am not really experiencing other symptoms.

I feel exhausted because I am waking every morning with a grumbling tummy and it starts to make me look at all the food I am eating suspiciously.........

Has anyone else experienced this and if so any advice or suggestions?

Thanks all

Hi Muppa puppa

Sorry I cant help with this but I saw your post was missed - they soon drop off the page! If you go onto the "Other Health Discussion" board and scroll through the topics there have been quite a few on digestive problems so you might find an answer there?

The important thing is that you have been to the doc and so far all is well.

I hope you find some help soon.

I have had digestive problems along with other symptoms during the menopause. HRT did greatly improve things for me, but I still have issues. I completely understand what you say when you mention being suspicious of food, I am like that. I have lost a stone and a half and it's mostly because I feel worse it I eat large portions and am worried certain higher fat foods cause a flare up, so inevitably I end up eating less. I also rarely feel hungry.

I had some vaginal / urinary problems so I was referred to a women's health physio. This was a really positive experience. It turned out many of my problems were to do with bowel issues, not emptying properly. She advised on ways to help this and this has had a really positive impact. I would highly recommend  a referral. My GP referred me and I didn't have to wait long for an appointment, but that was pre covid.

Good luck, you have my sympathies.

Thanks for your replies, I am waiting to see the continence nurse next week and I hope that she can refer to the women's physio, I wonder too whether there are issues with 'emptying' (sorry if TMI).

Yesterday I was completely fed up and felt rubbish. Although very tired today, due to yesterday's upset, I feel better (stomach less gurgly etc).

I think it is all inter-related but it is proving difficult to piece together the jigsaw puzzle. I am flapping around to find answers!!!!

Definitely not helped by the current Covid situation as every referral is taking ages.....

Thanks all.
