Hi Menopausealways, not sure where you are but can only speak for UK and from my own experience. I assume you mean over the counter painkillers because you certainly can get quite strong ones on prescription, GPs willing. I use both paracetamol and ibuprofen, and discovered that you can take them both together at the same time with impunity (trouble is that's the equivalent of taking two doses of painkillers so you then have to wait eight hours before taking anymore. Not that that stopped me, pain is pain so down the throat they go.
I also found in the dim dark ages when I used to get awful hangovers, that taking 6-8 disprin (or aspirin as well I suppose) in one go helped a lot with pain. But there are obvious risks with doing that, at least for any length of time.
I know that caffeine added painkillers are reputed to be quite effective, but I found them useful only for caffeine withdrawal headaches (back in the days before I realized that caffeine and the lack of it was giving me bad headaches).
I hope someone else knows of a stronger painkiller, I'd be interested myself.
