Oestradiol level low? Advice needed please
« on: January 07, 2021, 07:47:41 AM »

Hi ladies
I have just had a blood test to check my oestrogen levels due to having had a total hysterectomy October 26th this year, started taking oestrogel gradually increasing levels to five pumps but still experiencing hot sweats and disturbed nights sleep so I changed to ostrodot patch 50mg two weeks ago as didn’t think I was absorbing the gel very well,  still experiencing symptoms so asked for a blood test to check levels which wasn’t easy to get but had results yesterday which showed oestradiol level 82.2 pmol am I right in thinking this is low?
Many thanks in advance x

Morning.   I can't help with readings - mayB put the name of the product into the search box on the Forum and see what pops up?

Yes, that is low. The recommended level for bone health is 250-350 pmol/l. Your Estradot dose is medium, so you may need to increase eventually, but see how it goes.

I agree, that is very low for a 50mcg patch.   Normally you could expect a level of about 300 pmol from that strength of patch so perhaps you could try a higher dose.

Did you have your ovaries removed?   I have noticed that some women seem to need much higher oestrogen doses to get relief after ovary removal.

Hi Mary yes I had a total hysterectomy and ovaries removed too,  would you suggest I increase the dose now or wait a while longer? X

Jools1x, I think I would double up on that dose and stick two patches on.   You have nothing to lose by trying it and you have had a hysterectomy so you don't have to worry about the progesterone component of HRT.  You could hold off increasing for a while but to be honest, I doubt your levels will rise significantly on that dose if they are so low after two weeks.

We have a member called Tc who had a very similar problem with absorption after having her ovaries removed so it might be worth reading some of her posts.  I think she is using a 100mcg patch.

Hi jools1x,
Im on 100mg patch(have no ovaries) and I don't think I absorb great as levels around 200 pmol estrogen so your seems lower. My Gp and the NHS meno specialist won't up my patch but Im still not near a level they say for bone health. All they say is levels at pre menopause level!
Are you prescribed by the GP or private?

Hi Kelly
I was initially prescribed the gel by Louise newson a private menopause specialist and to start with two pumps and gradually increase to four if needed after a month, I did this but still didn’t help so spoke to her again and was told I may not be absorbing well and to add another or two and if this didn’t help suggested the patch, I decided to try the patch and my family doctor prescribed estrodot which is what I asked for due to the size of patch been extremely small and good reviews, I am 54 so classed as post menopausal, I will apply two patches tomorrow to increase it to 100 mgs and see how that is and if it suits will ask the doc to prescribe them in place of the 50 xx
